I posted yesterday about some new additions to our Davenport site, but it didn't come in my mail. Did anyone get it? Thanks.....Teri
Phil, Do you have any email addresses from Davenports in England (or Australia). We would like to get some of them involved in the Davenport DNA Project. http://www.DavenportDNA.com You can email me privately at [email protected] Thanks Bill Davenport [email protected] In a message dated 3/21/2003 12:34:09 AM Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: > Hi Winn, > > I sure do. To All, Doesn't anyone here have ancestors in England; Derbyshire and Cheshire in particular? Winn
Sadly, no it isn't. Thank you for replying, but my Nelson was born and died in New Jersey and lived there all his life. I do have some information on him and have found him on several census. Nelson had two daughter, Maggie and Minnie and no sons. Minnie was my great grandmother and was born in 1882. I have found info on other Nelson Davenports but they have all been in Illinois, not New Jersey! Thank you for trying to help! A PAMUNKEY DAVENPORT QUERY: Would the person who queried me several months ago concerning her descent from Richard Walden and Patsy Davenport, daughter of Henry Davenport, Sr., of Cumberland-Buckingham, recontact please. The first family of Henry, Sr., is fairly well blocked out, now missing only the family of Richard Walden and Patsy. The Waldens are interesting because they initially moved from Cumberland to Halifax County with Patsy's siblings from Henry, Sr.'s first family (heretofore largely unknown), then moved to Washington County where they joined in community with half-blood siblings of Henry, Sr.'s second family and cousins from Julius Davenport's second family, Julius having been the brother of Henry, Sr. For those concerned about my whereabouts for the past several months, I've been on a hiatus to shovel snow and such and to attain a familiarity with my new e-mail server. Now back on station in reading Charlotte and Powhatan microfilms, among others. John Scott Davenport Holmdel, NJ Jo
While doing research on my DAVENPORTs I found the following that may be of interest to someone. Evidently this man was a clergyman either arriving at or leaving NJ when he passed away. If anyone was searching death records in his home state they would not find it. James B. DAVENPORT, died 3/11/08, Age 66 years, white, non-resident b. Hartford, Conn. Occupation: Clergyman. Died at Penn RR Depot, Jersey City. Mother: Elizabeth b. Vermont. Father: John b. Conn. Carol (Davenport) Parks Researching DAVENPORT, RUDDEN in NJ. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Today I received the following information: Nelson Davenport: Date of birth: March 28, 1854 Date of death: August 22, 1935 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Paterson, New Jersey Buried in Old Cemetery - Butler Father: Henry Mother: Frances Jayne Josephine Wetzel Davenport (Nelson's wife) Date of Birth: October about 1857 Date of Death: January 24, 1926 Father: George Wetzel (he was born in Germany) Mother: Barbara (she was born in Germany) Josephine was also buried in Old Cemetery - Butler Does anyone else have these folks in their tree or recognize them? Also I would appreciate if anyone familiar with the New Jersey area would suggest some places for me to look for records. I have no idea what town or county this cemetery is in. Does anyone know what newspaper would have been likely to carry obits or a library I could contact? Karen

-----Original Message----- From: Phil & Judy Olsen [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, March 14, 2003 8:50 AM To: [email protected] Subject: John Baker Maybe you could help us with the confusion over John Baker. My ggg grandfather was John Baker, he had a son John Baker b. abt 1774 who m. Sarah Alpha and Chloe McIntosh. Our question is about the first John Baker born in 1750's. We thought he could be John son of Thomas Baker and Dorothy Davenport. We have written accounts that John had a brother David and one William. Thomas and Dorothy do have sons by those names. However, John's son John Baker does not match the one you have because you say he married Martha Frazier and ours was married to Sarah Alpha and then Chloe. Our John b. abt 1750 according to family notes went to Kentucky where his son lived and remained there until his death. He was killed by two Negro slaves, according to a grandson, Issac Baker. (Interview by John J. Dickey 1898) Our John b. 1750's was a Captain in the Rev. War. I have seen many accounts where John Baker b. 4 May 1758 was married to Nancy Norfleet, but this does not seem to be the John b. 4 May 1758. Do you know anything about this account? Sorry, this is so confusing....it has been very confusing to us too. If you have any information which would help confirm that he is a son of Thomas and Dorthy or even that he was not would be appreciated so much. We cannot go forward until we make this link. Thanks. Judy
Several test results came in today for the Davenport Surname DNA Project. And it is interesting. First some introductory information: There are two tests - a 12 marker and a 25 marker. When two Davenports are tested the more markers between them that are similar the more likely they have a common ancestor. If they matched anywhere from 23 to 25 of the 25 then they are almost certainly related in the last 7-10 generations. If there is a 11 or 12 match on the 12 marker test and they both have the Davenport name then they odds are they have a common ancestor. But it is not as certain as the 25. Two individuals that are known Thomas of Dorchester were tested. One a 25 and one a 12. They more matched exactly on 12. This is good. There families split in the early 1700s at Thomas' grandsons. Now the interesting part. One individual is fairly certain he is an Albemarle Davenport from North Carolina. However he matched 24 out of 25 to the Thomas line. This is hard to ignore. For the moment on the website I moved him to the Thomas line. Another person matched only 16 of 25. There is no connection here. But we don't have other lines to compare to yet. I won't be surprised if there was a non-Davenport in his line somewhere. There were a few more results in but we don't have any matches for them yet. To see the results go to http://www.DavenportDNA.com and click on Results. Any Comments? Becky, It needs to be line from a Davenport male to a Davenport male. You said your grandmother was a Davenport and you may have a brother to test. --------- The following will work OK for Y-DNA: If your grandmother was born with the Davenport name then the male Davenport descendants of her brothers are OK for testing. If your grandmother married a Davenport then any of their male Davenport descendants are OK. The following will not work: If your (and your 3 brother's) father is not a Davenport. If your mother is a Davenport (and not your father). --------- In other words for your brother to be tested he should be a Davenport and your father should be a Davenport. If they don't qualify then you may have cousins that do. Bill Davenport [email protected]
I did realize that the DNA testing had to be through the male line-sorry I forgot to mention that I do have 3 brothers however and with the additional info you gave me about costs, etc. I can now contact them to see if they are interested. If the person on the last digest who asked me about REv. Johns wife(Abigail Pierson) please e-mail me I have quite a file on this family. The file however, needs much more work before I post it to the web--don't want to mislead anyone Becky
Your brothers are named Davenport, also? Otherwise, their Y chromosome will be from their paternal line. > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Tuesday, March 11, 2003 11:17 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [DAVENPORT] DNA Testing > > > I did realize that the DNA testing had to be through the male > line-sorry I > forgot to mention that > > I do have 3 brothers however and with the additional info you > gave me about > costs, etc. I can now contact them to see if they are interested. > > If the person on the last digest who asked me about REv. Message text written by INTERNET:[email protected] > I believe I am a descendant of Rev. John Davenport--most of my research leads > me that way< Becky, What was his wife's name, and some of the children. I have a Rev. John Davenport. Winn
Becky: Thanks for responding. First - this is a test on the Y chromosome. Only males have the Y chromosome. The DNA we are testing is passed down from father to son generation after generation virtually unchanged. If two Davenports are tested and they match -- then there is a good chance they have a common ancestor. Does your grandmother have brothers with male descendants? We are using FamilyTree DNA as the lab. There are two tests for the Y-DNA - a 12 marker and a 25 marker. I strongly suggest the 25 marker. It is much more useful for our purposes. Our group discount cost per test is $169 + $2 shipping = $171. Check out our website at http://www.DavenportDNA.com for more information. If you are interested I will send you a link to get the discounted price. If you have any other questions you can contact me at [email protected] Bill Davenport [email protected]
