On the Lawrence Co. census in Ind. year 1840 James And Spicy Smith have a boy under 5 with them. they had no children that died young only Alexander and he was in his 20's. There was a Dougherty boy born in 1838 in Leispic, Ind. that was unaccounted for. His name was George Washington. I beleive this is the boy with my great grandparents the James Smith"s. she was a Dougherty. In later years when she had suffered a great loss this George left Ind and went to her in ILL. and stayed for several years there until she had passed away. By the 1850 census George is no longer with them. at least not on the census. and he stayed in Ind when they went to ILL. who did he stay with? If he is not Spicys brother then he must be her nephew. George W. could be a son of Hernry"s or he could belong to one of Spciy's brothers or even a sister. Later Henrys children went to Greenwood Kansas where my Spicys family had gone. on the trail to Okla. I still havent fitted in Hazel and Ruth but they are family too. I would bet. Searching for more clues to this. any small bit will help. Thanking you all Bless those who help us in our searches Mary Lou
