Hi In searching for the info I had on Joel Charles Dougherty I came across this. John D. Jr. son of Capt John. married Mary Howell. I have listed for them a son born March 11, 1811 named George Washington. who married Sarah Campbell and they had a son nam ed George washington in 1846. On the war records there was listed a George W. who was in the service abt. 3 mo. and died in Tenn. at Look out Mt. Tenn. so that takes care of two of the George Washingtons that went in service from Orange Co. Now there is one more born in 1838 Who is the parents of this one who married Mary Moore.? On the Joel Charles I do have him down as a son of Henry and Cynthia. but had no wife or ch. So thanks Barbara this is not proven that he was a son of Henry and Cynthia. but am working on it. Do you know when he died? I am looking to find obits of any of Henry's known children. to see if any of the others are listed. Do you supose that all the ch. but the 4 girls listed were deceased by the time Cynthia died in 1874??? Oh there was a Warden P. Dougherty that married Elizabeth Dunbar also. In The 1870 time period there was a mass movement of the Smith children to the south. down threw Kansas and on to Okla. where they settled in what is now Canadian co. in fact all but one came here. one Martha married a Webster and is not listed with the family in 1870 when great grandmother Spicy Jane and ch was listed on census in Richland Co Il. Martha did not marry until 1875 by 1876 the girls were all married and started the move south. Thanks to every ! one Mary Lou
I don't have a death date for Joel or Margaret. So far I have found them in 1850 in Sangamon Co., Il; 1860 Coffey Co., KS and in 1870 in Greenwood Co., KS. This is what rang a bell with me since your Spice Jane's children were there also. I have not found Joel or Margaret on the 1880 census so they may have passed away by this time. I haven't located any of their children on the 1880 census for sure since I don't know the names of their spouses and they are not in Greenwood Co. and may have moved back to IN or IL where they were born. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Morgan" <morgan14u@itlnet.net> To: <DAUGHERTY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 11, 2003 2:30 AM Subject: [DAUGHERTY] Dougherty Info bits and pieces. > Hi > In searching for the info I had on Joel Charles Dougherty I came across this. I did find a Robert W. Daugherty born about the time of Joel's son in Strawberry TWP, Sharp Co., AR on the 1880 census. He has a wife, Mary and a 1 yr. old daughter, Martha. Rob't's parents were from IN. He also had a bro. Charles G. 12 and a sister Margaret 10y both born in KS. I don't have these listed since they were born after the 1870 census but I think this is Joel's son but cannot prove it. He is the only Robert W. Daugherty/Dougherty that matches the date of birth and place of birth listed in the index for 1880 census.
