    2. Hi We go back to Donegal with the O'Dougherty's also, so I am told. We are Kay Co., Ok. We have not determined who our George Washington's parents are, or who his siblings were, but hopefully, Mary Lou can help us out there. When I went to Ok. two years ago for a family reunion, I met 120 new cousins that I never knew before. Some lived about 50 miles from me, so we have become close. Then, Anne Marie found me and we opened up a whole new branch of Dougherty offspring up in the Seattle area. Your names are not familar to me, but I don't know any family back that far. We do have William's in our line, but that name is common. Even my brother was William Edward. Keep in touch when ever possible. Joyce

    3. That is wonderful. It helps when you have other cousins that can fill in the "blank" pages. Bob Kinsman helped me fill in a lot of the spaces on the other siblings of my ancestor William. I had found my mother's notes that she and her cousins in OK had drawn up which helped me to follow my grandfather's family back as far as William of 1712 from Ireland. I hope Mary Lou has luck in finding her g-grandmother Spicey's parents and you have good luck in your search also. 2. Hi Jo If you get a chance, go to the IOOF Cemetery in Ponca City. We have a lot of our family buried there. Most of them were moved from the Lake when they enlarged it. I would like to see if any of our names match. I will look for my album where I have a list of all the graves that were moved. I can also tell Mary Lou. Joyce

    2. Hello Mary Lou Some of the kin folk lived in Treese, Pittsburg, Picher, & Pittsburg Kansas that I know of. Also around Baxter Springs. I don't ever remember hearing of George being there, but who knows? George's son, my Grandfather Edward Vinson Dougherty lived in Treese. Of course they lived in Polk Co., Mo. also, along with Ponca City and Kaw City. Joyce

    2. I've got several Daugherty's in Oklahoma, mainly Durant, Bryan County and Tulsa, Tulsa County, OK. Re: the spelling of the name...I had also heard that the spelling should also include O'Daugherty. Looking for burial place for William H. Daugherty and his wife, Sarah Delashaw Daugherty. We have locations on several of the children of this couple...they are my great-great grandparents. Probably burial place is somewhere in the Durant, OK area. There are at least two of their children buried in Highlands Cemetery....one of them being my great grandfather John Q. Daugherty Sr. and his wife, Frances Gazelle Essex Daugherty, along with her parents Albert Essex and Mary Susan Apple Essex. Several other family members in the same cemetery and/or plot as well.... Will be making a road trip to OK this weekend, hoping to have the headstone photos to post soon. Have a good weekend... 2. Hi Mary Lou George Washington was buried in Missouri. I have been to the cemetery and walked it with another cousin, but found nothing. We have also checked into the death records, cemetery records, and also tried to find the obit but there is no listing of his burial. None of the cousins so far as we know can find the obit. Whenever I go back there, along with other cousins, we have exhausted all means that we know of to find his resting place. My Father, Admiral Dewey Daugherty, also told me he was buried in Missouri, but did not know where. So, the mystery continues. My Dad never mentioned Indian blood in the family. Perhaps Anne Marie knows about it, but I don't believe we ever discussed it. I will try to call her this afternoon to see what she has to say about it. Joyce

    3. Hello Did either of you Joyce or Anne Marie hear that there was indian blood in our family tree?? I have the Daws roll for the Cherokee and there is a possible connection. This is what I see. My cousins have always claimed indian blood. in 1817 there was a James and also a William Dougherty listed as living on the reservation in NC. Fact by census record both of Henrys wives came from NC. Fact in roll there are women named Catherine and Cynthia {That is only name they are LIsted by} and this whas Henrys wives names. One record I received said that Henry and Catherine named a Daughter Cynthia. Now a quistion\? comes to mind. It says in the roll book that lots of the men who had indian wives left around 1817 before the goverment could move them to the Okla land. and they sorta hid out from then on as they did not want to be found and moved to Okla. Menny passed for white in the new locations. Here is a fact. My Spicy Jane was a herb healer. and had a daughter who was also one in her own right. and daughter called her self Spicy altho her name was Martha Jane. Did either of you send for the Marriage record of George Washington and Mary Moore? Do you think we could get a Obit if he died in! 1897 there should be a record in paper. I will get in touch with the court house there and see when the records were kept and where. more later coz. Mary Lou

    3. Trustan and female belong to Gabriel and Nancy Vest Dougherty. Gabriel and Nancy are on the bottom of the page before the one Trustan is on. The girl must have died since she was not listed on the 1870 census of Orange County. James, Lewis and George belong to the John and Mary J. Dougherty of #86 of the previous page. I wonder if the Sarah Boyd is the mother of Mary because of her age, 65. I do not have this family in my database. Sorry. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Morgan" <morgan14u@itlnet.net> To: <DAUGHERTY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 30, 2003 5:50 AM Subject: [DAUGHERTY] Need parents for these children > Dwelling # 0462 NE Twp. 3. My grandfather descended from William,d. 1773, He told me before he died that there was indeed Native American blood in the Daugherty/Dougherty line. I am assuming it is Cherokee since my line was from Virginia. My grandfather's brothers went to Oklahoma in the 20's. What you are saying about the Catherine and Cynthia may very well be true which is why it is difficult in tracing these women. Keep up the good work Mary Lou. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Morgan" <morgan14u@itlnet.net> To: <DAUGHERTY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 30, 2003 6:17 AM Subject: [DAUGHERTY] our George Washington Dougherty 1838 > Hello > Did either of you Joyce or Anne Marie hear that there was indian blood in our family tree?? 1. [DAUGHERTY] Hazel Dougherty 1819 NC.
    2. Morgan
    3. Barbra and all What I am thinking now is that if Hazel was born in 1816 in NC. he is not a son of Henry Dougherty because Henry was in Orange Co. Ind at that time. It is possible that he does belong to James or William Dougherty that came after the 1816 time frame. On the 1817 roll count of the Cherokees there was a James AR ? and a James Dougherty. and on the list that agreed to move in 1817 there was a James and a William both. After reading the rolls of the Cherokee I beleive that Catherine and Cynthia both of Henrys wives were Cherokee. and that is why no last name is given there were several women listed on the roll that Were only Catherine and Cynthia. no last name. I beleive that the James or William Dougherty listed there came to Ind. later after 1816 and that William was the parents of Michael and Hazel. and probaly the parents of Catherine and Cynthia. Not the parents of Spicy Jane The William could have been the William b. 1745 d. 1833. This was a brother to Capt. John. These people came west and some of them did not want the Gov. to know where they were. as they did not want to be put on the Reseveration. They some times passed for white. I beleive now that Henry is the father of Spicy Jane also the father of George Washington born 1836 in Orange co. Ind. I also would like to get a Marriage record for George Wahington and Mary Moore. I think that Hazel would have married after 1830 Can any one verify any of this Thanking you Mary Lou

    3. Mary Lou: According to the Orange County, IN site of USGenWeb, marriages were recorded from 1816. Try writing to: Orange County Recorder 205 E. Main Street Paoli, Indiana 47454 They do not say how much a copy runs. You might also try calling the Orange County Clerk (they are at the same address) at 812-723-3600 ext 112. 3. That is who sent the tree out. And I do not have any proof of it only use it as a starting place. when one finds some information it is best to get the probates and legal papers if you want the proof. I usually send to the place of death for any proof I can find. I have no Idea what line my Spicy Jane came from yet after 20 years of searching and countless probates and wills.
