This is more on that. on the 1820 census he already had 4 girls listed. Now on the probate one of them that is listed was not born until 1830 Also census records say he had at least 3 boys. listed in 1830 That meny children might die. but at least one of them was a grown man of 20 to 30 years of age. and that would have been 5 in one family sorta hard to beleive. and if so where were they burried. Also on the 1830 census the girls I was 24 to 36 and two were 36 to 55. Raises quite a question. Did Henry have at least two more. a boy and a girl?More later Mary Lou
On the 1820 census Henry has 5 girls 4 under 10 and 1 10 to 15 on the 1830 census there is 3 boys and 4 girls. and in 1830 Mary was born, and in 1835 Maria was born. No boys were listed and not enough girls. in that probate? It is Cynthias and Henrys probate but not enough children. Would need names of 3 boys at least and I more girl besids Maria.
the probate lasted for several years from 1874 to 1882 and land was sold. and children were listed. I was of the impression before that Henry and Catherine had 2 girls. but I am not sure the way this reads. It lists Parmelia who married William Johnson On Aug. 1, 1833 Sarah who married Robert Black on June 20, 1839 Mary F. M. John Stover no date Lavinia m John Dougherty by the 1870 the youngest girl had died as she is not mentioned she was Maria who was born in 1835 also Mary was born in 1830
Not dumb questions...it means an inquisitive mind. The best way to explain it would be: IE George Had two sons...Sam and Fred Sam and Fred had a son each. Sam's was Dave...Fred's was Charlie Dave and Charlie were first cousins Charlies children would be first cousin once removed to Dave Charlies grandchildren would be first cousin twice removed, to Dave. Etc. Hi Mary Lou, Someone put a really good description of all the relationships online and his statement that if the other person was in a different generation than she/he was from the person that they descended from, that accounted for the 'removed' term. So the children of your aunts and uncles are your cousins - period But the cousins of your parents are your cousins, "once removed". The cousins of your grandparents are your cousins, but "twice removed". Of course, it isn't always that easy, especially when you go back several generations and then try to figure out cousins who are in the same generation or just one different from you. I have just found a descendant whose ancestor is the sibling of my ancestor back 7 generations. Since we are in the same generation descendant-wise, I think that makes him my seventh cousin, and my children's seventh cousin, once removed. Others will probably be able to explain it better and there are pages online that show it. Funny though, that most of us, just call these 'removed' relatives, 'aunt and uncle' or 2nd cousins. Good luck! Susan E PS: I am related to a John Daughtery, wife Letitia Sharp Daughtery in PA, if we should connect. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Morgan" <morgan14u@itlnet.net> To: <DAUGHERTY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 10, 2003 11:02 AM Subject: [DAUGHERTY] Can some one tell me what is a cousin once removed? > dumb question I bet but would like to know what the once or more removed means. If you have Internet access go to google.com type in "KINSHIP CHART" and you will get a nice chart showing kinship to the 7th degree.
dumb question I bet but would like to know what the once or more removed means. Mary Lou
