    1. [DAUGHERTY] Dougherty Info bits and pieces.
    2. Morgan
    3. Hi In searching for the info I had on Joel Charles Dougherty I came across this. John D. Jr. son of Capt John. married Mary Howell. I have listed for them a son born March 11, 1811 named George Washington. who married Sarah Campbell and they had a son nam ed George washington in 1846. On the war records there was listed a George W. who was in the service abt. 3 mo. and died in Tenn. at Look out Mt. Tenn. so that takes care of two of the George Washingtons that went in service from Orange Co. Now there is one more born in 1838 Who is the parents of this one who married Mary Moore.? On the Joel Charles I do have him down as a son of Henry and Cynthia. but had no wife or ch. So thanks Barbara this is not proven that he was a son of Henry and Cynthia. but am working on it. Do you know when he died? I am looking to find obits of any of Henry's known children. to see if any of the others are listed. Do you supose that all the ch. but the 4 girls listed were deceased by the time Cynthia died in 1874??? Oh there was a Warden P. Dougherty that married Elizabeth Dunbar also. In The 1870 time period there was a mass movement of the Smith children to the south. down threw Kansas and on to Okla. where they settled in what is now Canadian co. in fact all but one came here. one Martha married a Webster and is not listed with the family in 1870 when great grandmother Spicy Jane and ch was listed on census in Richland Co Il. Martha did not marry until 1875 by 1876 the girls were all married and started the move south. Thanks to every ! one Mary Lou

    3. Does anyone know who the parents of Joel Charles Dougherty b. Ca 1812 Indiana are? He married Margaret P. Dunbar b. Ca 1817 Indiana on 30 Jun 1836 Orange County, Indiana. His children were Martha A. b. 1837, IN; John 1839 IN; William 1843 IN; Samuel S. 1847 IN; Robert W. 1851 IL; Mary C 1853 IL; Sarah A. 1856 IL. By 30 Aug 1860, they were in Burlington TWP, Coffey Co., KS. I thought his father was Henry-1784 IN but on the same census was a Sarah A. Dougherty, 73 from SC with son Robert W. 31 IN, Sarah 14 IN and Cynthia E. 3 KS. They were living next to Joel and Margaret. Thank you for any help you can give in clearing this up for me.

    1. [DAUGHERTY] In regards to the parents of Parmelia who m. William Johnson
    2. Morgan
    3. Hi List On Ancestry com. it says that the parents of Parmelia Dougherty that married William Johnson is George D. and his wife Hanna Boyd Dougherty. I do not even list them as having a daughter named Parmelia. I have the probate of Henry and Cynthia Dougherty which was finished up when she died in 1874 and it only lists 4 daughters as their children. Mary F. who married John Stover, Sarah who Married Robert Black, Parmelia who married William Johnson and Lavina Dougherty who married John Dougherty On the census records down from 1820 to 1850 it lists Henry as having 6 daughters and 3 sons. It is possible that all of the other children were already passed away. or as some one said might not have been all theirs in the first place. I am trying to find a obit for any of the girls that had passed away to see if it lists their brothers and sisters. also listed in 1850 was Maria and she is not listed so assumed she had passed away before 1874 Which leaves Livana, Parmelia, Sarah, and Mary Lavina married name remained Dougherty, Parmelia married name was Johnson, Sarah was Black and Mary was Stover if any one has the obit of any of these girls would like to know and have a copy will pay costs of same. Mary Lou

Surnames: Daugherty Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XSR.2ACIB/1094 Message Board Post: I'm looking for information about El Daugherty, married to Clara who lived in the small mining camp of Block, TN (Campbell Co) at the turn of the century. The information I have now is very limited. They are my great great grandparents. I do know they had several children, but only 3 (I believe) survived to adulthood. My great grandmother was their youngest child, Ruth, b. May 10 1908 and was a "change of life baby". Other children's names I have are Frank and Tom (?). El was Irish and Clara was a Cherokee, but I am searching for her maiden name. I do know that El, among others in the family (possibly Clara as well) were buried in a small family cemetery in or around Block. There is at least a headstone for El, as I remember seeing it on a visit to this small mountain cemetery as a child. This is basically all the information I have about them. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

There still lots of Daughertys in Morgan, Scott and Campbell Cos., TN, Ross and Robinson names also. WPA records for Morgan County, TN has both of these men listed.
