    3. This is a plea for the Doughertys out there from Va., Ky., Ind., ILL., Mo., Kansas., and Okla if you know any thing about the family of Henry Dougherty b. 1785 in Boyle co. Ky to Capt John. Henry m. #1 Catherine from N. C. and when she died around 1810 he m. #2 Cynthia also from N. C. To date I have these children for Him. Joel Charles b. 1812 Ind. m. Margaret Dunbar they are on the 1870 census in Greenwood co. Kansas near Fall River one report he died there bef. 1880 Also in Fall River is Joels neice with her younger brothers and sisters.? Parmelia, who is the daughter of Henrys dau. Parmelia who m William Johnson and was in Lawrence Co. Ind. in 1840. Henrys next child listed is Lavina who m. John Dougherty son of William her Uncle. they are listed in Lawrence Co. also listed there is my Great grandmother and her husband James T. Smith & Spicy Jane Dougherty . Henrys Miria did not marry and is listed as an Idiot on the 1850 census and is not listed in the Peobate of 1874 so assume she has passed away already. Mary F. b. 1830 m. John Stover and stayed in Ind. took care of her mother. On the move south and west. this bunch of men and women stayed together some what. Along with these children of Henrys that I have proven went My Spicy Jane's children along the way some were married and stayed, others passed away and were left behing in cemeterys along the way. one my great grand father Joel Foster is in the Cemetery at Eureka, Kansas some made it on to Canadian Co., Okla. I really beleive that Spicy is the daughter of Henry. and that in some way George Washington Dougherty b. 1838 is related to my Spicy he may be her brother. If there is any one out there who ever they are who can help find her parents please contact me now time is running out for this generation. God Bless you all and Thanking you so much one of the ones that made it to Oklahoma Mary Lou

    3. In the Lawrence Co. Ind. census 1840 where I found James T. Smith and his wife Spicy Jane . I also find a William Johnson family wife born between 1800 and 1810 two boys and 3 girls. I beleive this to be the family of Parmelia Dougherty. On the Greenwood county Kansas I find the family of Joel C. Daugherty in the Fall River area where the Childen of my Spicy Jane were. and by 1870 when this census reading was taken there were also the family of the said William Johnson. William and Parmelia named their children as Spicy Jane did and so did Joel In the Johnson family It looks as tho the Daughter Parmelia is there with her younger brothers and sisters. they were not put on as family units. so maybe what is here is Robert W. 41 Mary A. 25 Cynthia E. 13 and an Ely 6 mo. then Joels family Joel C. 58, Maragret 53, Robert 20, Mary 16, and Sarah 14 This was Dougherty On the Johnsons I am not quite clear will hafto do more seperating Mary Lou

    3. To continue Barbara, Mary and John were trying to buy the farm in 1874 when that probate for Cynthia was in court and this said it would hafto continue as no one else had bid on it and it would take John another year to come up with the $270 something need ed to settle the estate. So they probaly stayed there. is there later censused? some one said that the 1890 one burned. so will try to see if I can bring up the 1900 one. by then there should be an Obit. Thank you all Mary Lou

    3. In 1870 John and Mary were in French Lick P. O., French Lick TWP, Orange Co., IN on Page 13B LN#20 DW#187 FN#187. There were 7 children at this time: Frances 1860, Nancy E. 1861, Nevada (f) 1863, William M. 1865, Pamelia 1864, John 1867 and Martha 1869. I don't know Mary's date of death. She may have lived to 1900 since people were well up into their 60's-80's on the census listings. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Morgan" <morgan14u@itlnet.net> To: <DAUGHERTY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 15, 2003 12:42 PM Subject: Re: [DAUGHERTY] Henry > I had Catherines death as before 1810 as someone said he married Cynthia in > 1810. but still believe that she and Henry had 3 children. starting in > 1808 and think that there was a set of twins. there. 3. Just a thought. Caroline died before 1816 so her last child was around 1815. Could Spicey be hers and that is why no one has her listed. Henry married Cynthia around 1815 and Lavinia is her 1st child. Surely Catherine had more than the two that I have listed for her. I have Catherine's first child being born abt. 1808 at which time she would be 16-18. There is a 4 yr. gap between Cynthia and Joel (if he is hers) that there could have been another child. Also Lavinia might have been Catherine's and Spicey between Joel and Lavinia. Like you I wish a descendant of Henry would speak up and clear up the mystery of his two families.

    3. A Lady from the DAR said that every Dougherty in Orange Co. Ind. was a direct descendant of Capt John and Isabell. Sooo who do therse two belong to.?? Hazel Dougherty b. 1816 census says N. C. he married Ruth Johnson in Aug. 29, 1839. Orange Co Ind. Michael Dougherty that married Lydia Johnson in Orange Co Ind. June 18, 1836??? Are they the two missing sons of Henry.??? Henrys first and second wife both came form N. C. Henry married in Ky first and Michael was born in 1808 in Ky.??? Did he make a trip back in 1816 and Hazel was born then?? Most of the other sons of Capt John are accounted for. Henry is the one that every one seems to have forgotten Michael signed the papers for Cynthia's bond as did James Smith was one her step son and the other her son-in-law? Is Michael a twin to Isabell ? Does any one have the answer to this. I wait ever day for new clues and have waited for years I started this tracing my parents families in 1954. and am still where I was then about the James T. Smith and the Spicy Jane Dougherty parents. Thank you all so much for the help you are giving me. Mary Lou

    1. [DAUGHERTY] Joel, Cynthia and George Washington Dougherty
    2. Barbara and Mary Lou George Washington, my Great Grandfather, born 1838, died in Missouri, so a lot these Daugherty's might have lived around Dunnigan, Polk Co., Missouri. We also had Dougherty's that lived near Pittsburg, Ks., and other parts. A lot of relatives are buried in Ponca City, but most of them were orginally buried in Uncas and the cemetery there was moved when a lake was formed. Just a thought for Barbara. Joyce

    1. [DAUGHERTY] Re Joel and Cynthia
    2. Morgan
    3. O. K. if Joel Charles is Henrys son he named the boy for the Charles that married his sister Mary.?? And then Cynthia would have been a sister or a 1/2 sister to Joel. as if she was born in Ky before 1810 she was the dau of Henry and Catherine. This is one of the reasons I beleived that Catherine and Cynthia were sisters. and that Cynthia came to Ind with them then when Catherine died she married Henry. I also thought there were two daughters born to them in Ky. lets see in 1820 there were 4 girls under 10 in the house Lavina was born 1817 Sarah was born 1819 And maybe Parmelia. was born before 1820 so we need another one. and then there was I that was 10 to 15 That would have been the Cynthia. Does this make sense Mary Lou

    1. Re: [DAUGHERTY] Re Joel and Cynthia
    2. Barbara Purdum
    3. This is entirely possible. More than once I have come across the fathers marrying their single sister-in-laws to provide a mother for very young children or babies. The men did not like marrying women they did not know and if there was a single sister of the spouse they would marry them. This makes perfect sense also. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Morgan" <morgan14u@itlnet.net> To: <DAUGHERTY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 11, 2003 5:42 PM Subject: [DAUGHERTY] Re Joel and Cynthia > O. 3. A Ronald W. Grider has a gedcom at Ancestry.com for Miles Wasson and Cynthia. He does not have her parents but he lists as their fifth child a Joel Charles Wasson. 3. I did find a Robert W. Daugherty born about the time of Joel's son in Strawberry TWP, Sharp Co., AR on the 1880 census. He has a wife, Mary and a 1 yr. old daughter, Martha. Rob't's parents were from IN. He also had a bro. Charles G. 12 and a sister Margaret 10y both born in KS. I don't have these listed since they were born after the 1870 census but I think this is Joel's son but cannot prove it. He is the only Robert W.
