Darnell, 72, of Goldbond, Va., died Thursday night at his home.   Born in Washington County, Va., he was a son of the late John and Lydia Oquinn Darnell. He was a retired employee of the National Gypsum Corp.   Survivors: wife, Elizabeth Lucas Darnell; sons, Virgil Darnell of Ripplemead, Va., Gary and Garnet Darnell, both of Goldbond and Larry Darnell of Waiteville; daughters, Evelyn Tharpe and Dorothy Thornton, both of Baltimore, and Charlene Schammel of Goldbond; brother, Bill Darnell of Saltville, Va.; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.       The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Williams-Jameson-Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke, Va., with the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Va.      Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home." Edna Madeline Boardwine, d/o William Edmondsom Boardwine & Brooksie Leona Henderson]   "Smyth County News & Messenger", Aug. 13, 1997 "Jay Edward Darnell, 70, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997 at his son's home in Kingsport, Tenn.       He was a native of Saltville and had lived in Dayton, Ohio for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Will" Darnell and Rosie Broady Darnell.       He retired from Dayton Tire & Rubber Company and was a veteran of the Korean War.       Survivors include one son, Billy Darnell [William Edward Darnell, m. Tamara Jane Anderson, d/o Clarence Bradley Anderson & Eula Evelene Harris], Kingsport, Tenn.; three daughters, Debra Sue Totten and Beverly Darnell, both of Saltville, and Jodie Helton, Chilhowie; one brother, Eugene Darnell, Dayton, Ohio; eight grandchildren.       Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel. A military graveside service was conducted by Saltville VFW Post 7328 in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Saltville Rescue Squad. D.R. Edward Darnell [(c1928-8 Aug 1997); m/d. Edna Madeline Boardwine, d/o William Edmondson Boardwine & Brooksie Leona Henderson], both of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Frank B. Surber, Saltville; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.      Henderson Funeral Home is in charge." DARNELL, Wyndham    [Wyndham Darnell (14 May 1900-30 Jan 1982)] (undated clipping)      "SALTVILLE, Va. - Wyndham Darnell, 81, died at his home Saturday night.   Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ethel C. Darnell; three sons, Harold Darnell of Tampa, Fla., Kenneth Darnell of Bristol Tennessee, and Wyndham Darnell Jr., of Goshen, Ind.; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Cindy) Fowler of Bristol; one step-daughter, Mrs. Mildred Price of Lebanon, Va.; two stepsons, Archie Taylor and Grover Taylor, both of Bristol; three brothers, William Darnell and Bolden Darnell, both of Saltville, Fount Darnell of Pearisburg, Va.; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.      Henderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements."
