    1. Cute short story
    2. Subject: boys at breakfast A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin, 5, Ryan, 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. "If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, 'Let my brother have the first pancake. I can wait.' Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, "Ryan, you be Jesus!"

    1. My computer's broke and my car hates me
    2. If Cars Were More Like Computers There's a report that a computer industry honcho once said, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving twenty-five dollar cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon." Well, if cars were more like computers... 1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day. 2. Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you would have to buy a new car. 3. Occasionally, your car would die on the freeway for no reason and you would just accept this, restart and drive on. 4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to start, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine. 5. Only one person at a time could use the car, unless you bought "Car95" or "CarNT." But then you would have to buy more seats. 6. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive, but would only run on five percent of the roads. 7. The oil, water temperature and alternator lights would be replaced by a single "general car fault" warning light. 8. New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt. 9. The airbag system would say "Are you sure?" before going off. 10. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna. 11. All GM car buyers would be required to purchase a deluxe set of Rand McNally (a division of GM) road maps, even though they neither needed nor wanted them. Attempting to delete this option would immediately cause the car's performance to diminish by 50 percent or more. 12. Every time a car company introduced a new model, car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as those on the old car. 13. You'd press the "Start" button to shut off the engine. Anyone ready for a trip back to the "Good Old Days?"

    2. A D Pittman
    3. I have just recently (very, to be exact) started to look for my Darnell connection. I have very limited info, but I am hoping one of the Darnell reseachers may see this, and respond. My great-grandfather, James Walker Darnell, born 1871 in MANCHESTER, TN. Left TN for Texas at age 19. Had two brothers, Sam Darnell who left TN for IN and Bob Darnell who also came to TX. There may have been another brother, or cousin-went by the name of Picalo Pete, who was an explorer in Alaska, and died in 1955. He also had two sisters, of one the name was "Kittie"-I do not know the name of the other sister. I am looking for any (emphasized) information on James Walker Darnell's father, mother, etc. I look forward to hearing from ya! Angela D. Pittman Carrollton, TX

    2. DOUG GORDON
    3. -- [ From: Doug Gordon * EMC.Ver #3.1a PRODIGY ] -- The Robey book cites another source that says that Sarah Luckett was probably the sister of a Samuel Luckett who was married to an Elizabeth. This Samuel's children included Samuel E. Luckett (b. abt 1685), Thomas and Ignatius, (possibly) Benjamin, and Elizabeth (who married a Cooper). Apparently there is some confusion on this point since some sources say that Sarah was the sister of Samuel E., et al, but when you look at the birth dates (she was born abt. 1668) this doesn't make sense -- she must have been from an earlier generation. 3. Hi Doug, I'm descended from Edward Darnall too. Do you know if the book you mention has much info on the Lucketts? Was she related to the Samuel Luckett of Charles County in the late 1600s? Thanks, Rick rickandshelia@mindspring.com >According to this book, the John Robey who >was "our" Sarah Robey's father was married to Sarah Hines Luckett.

    3. -- [ From: Doug Gordon * EMC.Ver #3.1a PRODIGY ] -- Don: My information comes from the book "Robey/Roby/Robie, The Family History from England to America" by William G. Robey. It is a very long and detailed book in two volumes. According to this book, the John Robey who was "our" Sarah Robey's father was married to Sarah Hines Luckett. However, John also had a son named John Robey (b: 1686) who married Sarah Berry (b: abt 1695). In other words, there was a Sarah Berry but she is not part of the Darnall lineage. There were a lot of John Robey's around in those days, so it's no wonder that there is some confusion. I hope that this clears things up, assuming that it is accurate. 1. Incureable Genealogist
    2. I want ancestors with names like Rudimentary Montagnard or Melchizedick von Steubenhoffmannschild or Spetznatz Gianfortoni, not William Brown or John Hunter or Mary Abbott. I want ancestors who could read and write, had their children baptized in recognized houses of worship, went to school, purchased land, left detailed wills (naming a huge extended family as legatees), had their photographs taken once a year -- subsequently putting said pictures in elaborate isinglass frames annotated with calligraphic inscriptions, and carved voluble and informative inscriptions in their headstones. I want relatives who managed to bury their predecessors in established, still-extant (and indexed) cemeteries. I want family members who wrote memoirs, who enlisted in the military as officers and who served in strategically important (and well documented) skirmishes. I want relatives who served as councilmen, schoolteachers, county clerks and town historians. I want relatives who 'religiously' wrote in the family Bible, journaling every little event And detailing the familial relationship of every visitor. In the case of immigrant progenitors, I want them to have arrived only in those years wherein passenger lists were indexed by National Archives, and I want them to have applied for citizenship, and to have done so only in those jurisdictions which have since established indices. I want relatives who were patriotic and clubby, who joined every patrimonial society they could find, who kept diaries, and listed all their addresses, who had paintings made of their horses, and who dated every piece of paper they touched. I want forebears who were wealthy enough to afford, and to keep for generations, the tribal homestead, and who left all the aforementioned pictures and diaries and journals intact in the library. But most of all, I want relatives I can find!!! *Ms. Brown's "I Want" article was originally posted in 1994 to the National Genealogical Conference, FIDO bulletin board forum.
