BLIND PILOT I was flying from San Francisco to Los Angeles. By the time we took off, there had been a 45-minute delay and everybody on board was ticked. Unexpectedly, we stopped in Sacramento on the way. The flight attendant explained that there would be another 45-minute delay, and if we wanted to get off the aircraft, we would re-board in 30 minutes. Everybody got off the plane except one gentleman who was blind. I noticed him as I walked by and could tell he had flown before because his Seeing Eye dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of him throughout the entire flight. I could also tell he had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached him and, calling him by name, said, "Keith, we're in Sacramento for almost an hour. Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?" Keith replied, "No thanks, but maybe my dog would like to stretch his legs." Picture this: All the people in the gate area came to a completely quiet standstill when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with the Seeing Eye dog! The pilot was even wearing sunglasses. People scattered. They not only tried to change planes, they also were trying to change airlines!
We did it.......... I am celebrating.........No opposing votes and SUCCESS........ THE NEW MASTER DARNELL GEDCOM FILE IS ONLINE ! Halleluyah........... The link is http://millennium.fortunecity.com/cedar/449 It will be included on my main page sometime next week. Thank you all for submitting your gedcoms and for being so cooperative. Awiusdi ( Your Darnell Listowner )
I hit a snag. I gotta find a bigger server. Geocities wont handle a file that large. Dont despair. But it may take a few hours to locate one. Awiusdi
Ok so far so good. No one on these 2 lists oppose the idea of the gedcoms being available online. If by some slim chance,,,,,,,someone dont want them on. I need to hear from you now........... At 12 noon Central Time Zone they will go online. Lets keep our fingers and toes crossed maybe this will pass. Also one more plea,,,,,,,,,,,if you havent sent me your gedcom to be included do so now. ( besure you know if you send it, it will be online and available for the world to see ) Thanks Awiusdi
Dan I have 3 rootsweb lists and I have sort of a problem I need to consult about. I have put together gedcom files with the gedcoms people have sent to me and I made it know that eventually the goal was to have them online. I have finally managed to create 3 master gedcom files for the 3 groups and have taken a vote on if the people want the gedcoms online or not......... Well,,,,There are only 2 people in amongst all 3 lists that dont want them online. Everyone else does. When I told everyone I was putting together these gedcoms, I posted a letter to the list and told them to edit out any info they didnt want online before they sent me the file, that I would not edit it after recieveing it, So anyone who sent a gedcom in to be included knew that it would eventually online. Alot of my people dont have room or the means on their computers to have the gedcom sent to them for their own private use and it needs to be online for them and also for web surfers. I have sent a copy of this letter to my 3 lists also ( just to keep me safe) Anyway I hope you will help me to decide what I should do. P.S. One of the people opposing did not contribute. Awiusdi
Hi ya all. I have sent out the text files and the gedcom files to those who wanted them..........Any last requests? Anyone opposed to the gedcoms being posted online?????????? I would like to hear from you........VOTE YES OR NO ( If you want to be heard ) send the replies to me personally,,,,,awiusdi@poncacity.net NOT to the list. I am planning on having them available and online but morning. Awiusdi
I have an 85 page report available on the Darnell Master Gedcom File. If you want to edit the file ,,,or if you want a copy of it,,,, email me and I will send you a copy of the report attached to an email. ALSO if you have a Darnell Gedcom that you havent sent to me, Please do I will merge it in. I am going to put the gedcom file on line tomarrow and I dont want to leave anyone out. Awiusdi
I have just received information on three Darnells owning land in KY and wonder if someone with either of the Darnell books would let me know if these 3 are mentioned therein. Information was taken from book "Old Kentucky Entries and Deeds" by Willard Rouse Jillson, Sc.D and is listed as a complete Index to all of the earliest Land entries, Military Warrants, Deeds and Wills of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. At this time period, KY only had 3 counties, Jefferson, Fayette & Lincoln. Darnells listed: Under Fayette Co.: Darnell, Jeremiah 5,3112 1/2 A Book 3,page 124, 12/21/1783 Eagle Cr. Jefferson Co. Darnel, John 844 A Book A, page 65 5/17/1780 Pastures Lick Cr. Under "Old Kentucky Entries & deeds": Darnell & Barr 100 A Book 2 page 146 9/9/1784 Dix R Sure would appreciate any assistance on any info on these gents. Thanks. June

RPG PROGRAMMER PLAYING SOLITAIRE WITH JAVA If you're the sole RPG programmer in your shop who's interested in Java, rest assured, you're not alone in the world. Slowly, other die-hard RPGers are tinkering with the language, and one of them, Daniel Darnell, senior programmer/analyst for LSI Financial Group, has created a Java solitaire game in his effort to learn the object-oriented language. Darnell isn't into Web page design and, in fact, has aborted several attempts to learn C++. He has faced skepticism from upper management and plugged away at the language for a year and a half on his own. "I'm living proof that RPG programmers can transition to Java," he says. Bruce Bond, Gartner Group analyst, notes that continuing to write in RPG is not the wrong thing to do, but it's not the ideal thing, either. Bond firmly believes AS/400 shops need to keep their options open -- especially with enterprise applications -- and writing in Java is one way to do that. "RPG programmers may not be ready for Java," he notes. "But they had better get ready for it because IBM is pushing it big time -- and if they do write in Java it's going to give them tremendous flexibility moving forward." At the time Darnell started working with Java, he didn't have the big IBM push and massive industry attention to propel him toward the language. "After ten years of coding, RPG was getting pretty boring, but there was more to it than that," Darnell explains. "More and more I found that RPG wasn't quite adequate for the types of applications I was asked to write." Some of his advice for RPG programmers includes simply realizing that Java isn't necessarily "easy" to learn and that it's probably not going to come together for RPG programmers in 21 days. "You know those funny new suprocedure things in RPG IV? Learn them," he advises. "Learn them well. They're called methods in Java." He also recommends that RPG programmers learn how to use pointers in RPG IV because they're similar to the concept of "references" in Java. "If you can enter the Java learning process with the carry-over RPG IV features to your credit, then you can concentrate on the things that RPG doesn't have, namely the object-oriented constructs," he adds. Darnell is still taking it slowly and showing a lot of proof of concept code to his managers and gaining knowledge and experience. By the time the native Java compiler is available for the AS/400 (1Q98), he hopes to reap the benefits of shorter development cycles promised by reusable components and San Francisco frameworks. In the meantime, you can play around with Darnell's Java solitaire game. For additional information on Java, see news400.com's "Hot Java and Cool C/C++" pages. http://www.common.ch/AS4N970813.HTML
Fulton County returns federal dollars rather than spend on unneeded program By HATCHER HURD, Managing Editor April 10, 1998 When a county government sends back dollars to the federal government, it's what they call in the journalism trade a man-bites-dog story that's news. But return $267,144 is just what Fulton County Board of Commissioners did when it voted April 1 not to accept the federal grant to establish the Food Stamp Nutrition Education Match Project. "We don't need to spend [nearly] $300,000 to tell poor people they need to eat more fruits and vegetables," said Commissioner Emma Darnell. "We don't need to create a bunch of $40,000-a- year jobs just to do that." The county would have provided matching funds, but it would be allowed to use nutritionist positions in the county's Women and Infant Children (WIC) program which are already funded to count as the matching contribution. Usually such grants get a rubber stamp from the receiving municipal government, but this project rankled Darnell, and the other commissioners agreed. Only Commissioner Nancy Boxill, who abstained in the vote, saw an upside. "This would allow people such as diabetics and those with food allergies to get some counseling they might not otherwise be able to get anywhere else," Boxill said. But Darnell said this was the "same old game" of giving dollars to bureaucrats for programs that have little or no impact on the lives of the people they are supposed to help. She said she would rather see the money go directly to food stamp recipients, rather than try to encourage them to eat better. "They would monitor their results by coming back and seeing how many people were eating more fruits and vegetables. We don't need this," Darnell said. For once, Chairman Mitch Skandalakis agreed with Darnell, saying he had no problem with sending the money back to Washington. http://www.appnews.com/0410return.htm

I have created homepages for The BRYANTS THE DARNELLS and DARNALLS THE FORTUNES On the Ancestry Homepages. I will let you know more about this soon. This will be a great way for you to upload files you want to make available for people. I am trying to figure out how to send group invites instead of having to do it one person at a time. This would take forever. ALL THREE LISTS ARE SEPERATE. Anyway before the day is out I should have it figured out. DOES anyone on the lists have pages with ANCESTRY for either THE BRYANTS, DARNELL OR DARNALL or FORTUNES? If you do please contact me privately. Awiusdi
