    1. Aprils Newsletter, Listmember reports, surname reports
    2. Awiusdi Darnell
    3. I am getting ready to take Aprils Newsletters, listmember reports and surname reports offline. I will be doing this starting this Thursday May 6th at 10 AM, Central Time Zone. If you want to print off the items I would get busy and do it, you would have to visit every page of it and print it off seperately. I dont know if the new listowners want to keep up the Family Newsletters or if they will create new reports or not that is strictly up to them.I would hate to see all I had going with all of your help go to waste but thats just my opinion. It was very hard to give up my lists after so long of having them but I know the new blood will bring fresh insights and new opportunities. I encourage all of you to visit my Newest Decorated Main Homepage, it is located at http://www.poncacity.net/awiusdi/index.htm Over the course of the next few days I will be updating my homepages for The Bryants, The Darnells and The Fortunes. Anything I take off the web, I will save on a disk, so if need be I can email them to you but I really dont want to have to do that. Love you guys...... 1. Oklahoma : LAst update and more
    2. Awiusdi Darnell
    3. A last update. 8 new tonadoes yesterday but none in my area. Halleluyah. However there is some new storms heading their way today, straight thunderstorms, That will greatly hinder the recovery of any people who could be still trapped in the rubble. There are 2500 homeless families in Oklahoma City alone. That is so unimmaginable. The following facts concern that specific region. 76 confirmed seperate tornadoes. 265 Million dollars in damage to structual damage 45 million dollars in automoblies. Over 600 injured, 60 still in hospitals, many are critical. 43 dead confirmed. Many still missing. The president has declared Oklahoma as a Federal Disaster area. Alot of the people are not allowed to go back into their homes, it is way to dangerous. That is if they even have a home to return to.That is very hurtful to the affected. Many people are still in shock over what has happened here in Oklahoma. The Spirit of OKlahoma is outstanding. I hope the world sees that and learns to pull together during times of crisis. There are many people who are still unable to find their families. That alone is just as bad as the tornadoes were. The news coverage is unforgetable. So much hurt going on. However Channel 9 news has been a wonderful support system for the people, Oklahoma is truly incredible in pulling together during these times. Many shelters and supplies have been donated and are now being distributed out to the people. Many churches have opened their doors to serve the people. Many apartment complexes are opening their doors and also many people have taken in families in their spare bedrooms. That is so awesome to see. In the midst of the storm there is peace and hope. Its never easy to go through something as devastating as disasters, either natural or man created but it is wonderful to see that Oklahoma is a place of unity and mercy for the hurting. The Heartland of America will survive all this and they will rebuild, lives will go on. I would like to ask all of you to keep Oklahomans in your prayers for along time to come. For the whole region they are saying the damage is in the 200 Billion plus. I have watched the news to try and get the specidic phone numbers for people to call if they had any loved ones in the area however they arent posting them right now. I do know people can call Channel 9 news station in Oklahoma City and they can lead you to the proper phone numbers to help find out the information you might need to know. If I see the phone numbers again on Tv I will write them down and if anyone has any need of those phone numbers I ask you to email me privately and as soon as I can get them I will email them to you. The Federal Government deserves a pat on the back for their quick response to this disaster, They are providing emergency funds for the people directly affected by this mess. I appreciate all your kind emails supporting my family as well as all the affected people. Now lets get back to genealogy and keep these list as great as they were when I was the listowner. I will miss all of the daily work I put into the lists but I know you are all in good hands. I just ask that you continue to respect the One chance rule in flaming or backbiting people. Keep the integrity of our family going. I have found many close family friends in the midst of all you people and for someone who had none, she has many. Thank you and I will go for now. 2. Awiusdi Darnell
    3. If you feel the Spirit lead you to, please donate money to The Oklahoma Tornado recovery Fund. Many people are lucky to have any clothes on their backs but have lost the rest, this is so devastating to Oklahoma. The address is Oklahoma Tornado Recovery Fund Bank Of Oklahoma Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Or you can support Feed The Children ( LArry Jones MInistries ) OKlahoma City, OKlahoma Or you can support Salvation Army. I dont have the address. Or you can support Red Cross. I dont have the address to that either. Some of the same areas are getting hit again by severe storms right now...... Its starting to get bad again in those areas and we are under a Tornado watch here in Ponca. I pray all this ends soon. 1. Oklahoma Tornadoes
    2. Awiusdi Darnell
    3. I am posting this to the list because so many of you are concerned about my weather situation. As previous listowner I guess I am allowed..... Usually this list needs to remain about genealogy but this is alittle different. At one point there were over 25 tornadoes on the ground. Oklahoma is devastated. 43 dead,,, 563 treated in hospitals, untold missing. Over 2500 houses wiped completely out, over 255 million dollars in damage.Millions are homeless and destitute. There is such a horrid news coverage that it just breaks my heart. I was on pins and needles, I have two sons who live in the worse stricken area. Praise God they are ok,,,,,, Tornadoes were within blocks of them. Channel 9 on tv has organized along with Feed the Children, Red Cross and Salvation Army to provide the needs and an incredible outpouring of Oklahoma Spirit is incredible.IT sppears to be going well. In the footage on TV it looks like a bomb was dropped, everything is kindling, grass is gone, trees are gone, Our Famous Wheat Fields gone. Stripped to the sod Many people missing. Two tornadoes got within one mile of my house but we are ok. Praise God. However Ponca City is damaged but not nearly as bad as Oklahoma City. Tonight is suppose to be bad again. THere have been 8 new tornadoes today. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers and I appreciate you all being so concerned. Thank you so much Set Apart and Blessed,,,,, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.. Phil 4: 13 Awiusdi

    1. Chernobl Anniversary Virus.
    2. Awiusdi Darnell
    3. THis is the link for the following article. http://www.powermark.com/powerbriefing/990315/02.html For safety sake, I recommend checking it out. Do not accept attachments to your emails and do not send any my way. This virus is very damaging. The week's top IT stories ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Warning Issued Regarding Chernobyl Anniversary Virus Sophos, the anti-virus and security company, has issued a warning about a dangerous new virus that triggers on Apr. 26 to apparently "celebrate" the 13th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. The virus, called Network Nuke, will automatically trash a user’s PC hard disk, Sophos said. According to company officials, the virus, which was first identified last summer and is also known as the CIH virus, has dominated the firm’s "top 10" virus table. When Network Nuke is triggered on Apr. 26, it starts its campaign of terror by wiping out the user’s hard disk. Then it overwrites the re-writable elements of the PC’s BIOS chipset, making the infected PC unusable in the process. Paul Ducklin, the head of research at Sophos, said that the hardware-attacking payload of CIH ranks it at the top of the nastiness scale. "Hopefully, this will focus the attention of users and administrators on the fact that the best form of defence against viruses is not to get infected in the first place. Anyone without preventative measures in place should act at once," he said. To inform PC users, Sophos has published a booklet called "The Inside Track on CIH," which is available on request as well as via the firm’s Web site. Sophos has also prepared a list of frequently asked questions about the CIH virus, which is detailed below. Q: What is CIH? A: CIH is a family of computer viruses which infect Windows 95/98 programs. If you run an infected program on your computer, the virus will become active and begin to copy itself into other programs (.EXE files) on your system. The virus usually replicates very quickly, so you will probably soon have hundreds of infected files on your computer. Q: How does CIH spread? A: Any program you receive from outside your computer could potentially be infected. Once you are infected, the virus will soon spread throughout your computer, and so the chance of you passing an infected file to someone else is high. Q: How common is it? A: Even though the first reports of CIH appeared only around the middle of 1998, the virus reached the Number Three spot on the Sophos Virus Top Ten for the whole of 1998. It was third in January 1999, and fourth in February 1999. This means it is very common indeed. Q: Why is it so widespread? A: Programs infected with CIH have been seen on a number of cover CDs from reputable magazines, and on a number of reputable Web sites. This has certainly helped the virus achieve wide distribution. Q: What does CIH do? A: Normally, CIH simply spreads itself. But on certain trigger dates, it detonates its warhead. The warhead wipes out your hard disk, and then tries to overwrite the computers BIOS chip. Once the BIOS is overwritten, you will be unable to use your computer at all. Repair involves physically removing the BIOS chip and replacing it with a fresh one. On some computers, the BIOS chip is not removable, so it can only be replaced by swapping the entire motherboard. Q: What are the trigger dates? A: There are several variants of CIH, with different trigger conditions. The best known, and most widespread, variant will detonate on Apr. 26. Other variants detonate on June 26, or even on the 26th of any month. Q: Which operating systems are vulnerable? A: CIH spreads under Windows 95 and Windows 98. DOS and Windows 3.x cannot spread CIH because they cannot run Windows 95/98 programs. Windows NT cannot spread CIH because the virus uses programming tricks that do not work under NT. The virus can infect Windows NT programs, but such programs will no longer run, and will therefore not be infectious themselves . Q: How can I prevent it? A: Use reputable anti-virus software which can accurately identify CIH. Use the preventative component of your anti-virus software, not just the component that can detect viruses. For Sophos Anti-Virus, this means you should make sure you are using InterCheck (which will actively prevent viruses, including CIH) on all your computers. Your goal is not just to avoid having your computer damaged by CIH on 26 April, but to avoid being infected at all—by CIH or any other virus. 1. Re: Effects of Texas legislation on genealogists
    2. Awiusdi, Even though I am no longer in contact with the Darnall/Darnell List, I know there are genealogists in the group who may need birth or death information from Texas counties. I am sending information I just received from another list I subscribed to, as it effects us all in seeking records of our forebearers who either were born or died in Texas. Betty Cowdery Subj: Texas record closures Date: 99-04-22 00:02:51 EDT From: PThomp9719@aol.com Reply-to: PThomp9719@aol.com To: TRAYLOR-L@rootsweb.com I felt this was important enough to pass along to other genealogists. Your support can be vital. Peggy *************** HI Fellow Genealogists: In case you have not heard there is a bill in the Texas Legislature that might close the indexes to death and birth records in Texas for 25 and 50 years, respectfully. My column on Saturday April 24 will state most of what we know about the bill at this time. The column is already on my website at http://barnettesbooks.com Just click on read the columns. Scroll down and click on April 24. The column was submitted this morning for a Saturday publication date. Since being notified of this bill by Tommy Burns of Houston, I have found out only a little bit more. Supposedly, the bill was submitted to clarify the current law. The intent of the bill was to clarify the existing law and help open birth and death indexes in counties where the county clerk felt they were closed (At the same time, other county clerks felt the indexes were open). While in committee an amendment was placed on the bill stating the indexes would become open and public when the actual records (birth and death records) became open and public. According to the amendment the indexes would be closed for 25-50 years until the records themselves are public. The HB 836 passed the Public Health Committee in the State House of Representatives on March 30. It was referred to the Senate State Affairs Committee. As of today, the bill does not have a Senate sponsor. If we cause enough rancor, it is possible no one will take on the sponsorship of the bill and it will die in committee. On the otherhand, if a sponsor is found, we want to be on record requesting a hearing. At that hearing, we would need to flood the room with genealogists and other concerned citizens. While a law clarifying the present confusing law might be welcome, amendment on HB 836 closes the birth and death indexes until the actual records become public which is 25-50 years. .Monday night I contacted Jack Brissee, Chair of the FGS/NGS Records Preservation and Access Committee. Jack and his committee work with genealogists and other organizations all over the country when records are threatened with closure or misuse. He jumped on it and has faxed a letter to the Chair of the Senate State Affairs Committee. He has urged everyone to contact all genealogists, genealogical, historical and other concerned organizations to write a calm, collected, but, concerned letter to the Chair of the Senate Affairs Committee and to our own Senator concerning this bill. The Honorable Florence Shapiro Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs P.O.Box 12068 Capital Station Austin, TX 78711 Another bill in the legislature each of you should be aware of is HB13. This bill seeks to allow adoptees to obtain their original birth certificate upon reaching the age of 21. HB13 has met with the hostility of child placement services and birth mothers. Currently it is held up in committee where it may die. Part of the HB 13 awareness may have had some effect on HB 836 because both have to do with vital statistics registration If you wish to pass this letter around, please feel free to do so. I have included this mailing to a number of my columnist colleagues around the country who might wish to be alert to what is happening, down here, in Texas. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who hears any news on this matter. Thank You, MIC Mic Barnette's Writes a Weekly Genealogy Column In The Houston Chronicle.
