Dave, Thanks anyway on the BETHANY--BEATON/BETHUNE thing. Gotta check any possibility. I don't have a whole lot on Martha Angelina/Angeline PIERCE, who was my gr-gr-grandmother. But here is what I have. According to my own estimate from Census records, etc., she was born ABT 1839 in Henry Co., TN. Her father was Augustus PIERCE son of Stephen PIERCE & Lavinia GEERS, but I have not been able to find anything on her mother. I have seven siblings for Martha...... Elizabeth Caroline, Lavinia Catherine, William B., Pinckney Stephen, George W., Mary Jane, & Sarah R. Augustus is buried in Barbee Cemetery in Henry Co., TN. She married Charles Homer BETHANY July 8, 1861 in Henry Co., TN, and moved to Benton Co. where he lived. C.H. already had seven children of his own and a step-son. This was his third marriage. Martha & C.H. had at least 12 children, the second being my gr-grandmother, Martha Jane. Sometime toward the end of the Civil war they moved to Texas Co., MO and remained there until about 1873 when they moved to Newton Co., AR. After C.H. died in Dec. 1900, she kept the property for a while, but then began moving around living with her children for several months to a year or so at a time. She died in August 1915 near Earlsboro, Pottawatomie Co., OK while living with one of her daughters, and is buried in an unmarked grave in the Earlsboro Cemetery. My grandmother showed me where the grave was years ago, so at least we know where it is. I hope to get a stone on it this year. There are a couple of discrepancies in the information I have accumulated that disagree with the above info. One is that some other BETHANY researchers have her middle name as Lucretia instead of Angelina. The second is a family story that Martha Angeline PIERCE was abandoned as an infant on the doorstep of the home of a minister, Augustus PIERCE. Martha was at least part Indian and may have been full-blood. The PIERCE family took her in and raised her as one of their own. It has been speculated that she was abandoned during the removal of the Cherokee's to Indian Territory since two of the trails used went through the area of Henry Co., TN where the PIERCE family lived. One theory is that her mother had died and she was left there so she would be taken care of. This is about all I have on her, other than a couple of pictures other researchers have sent me. I can send those directly to you, if you like. Do you have some additional info on Martha or C.H.? Thanks and have a good day, Jean
