AND starchy pettyicoats that bit your legs but you had to wear to church, to the doctor office, to almost ANYTHING out in public...and girls only allowed to wear dresses to school...and black patent leather shoes, and little anklets with lace on em...and Mama making almost everything we wore....and soda pop machines where you reached down in the ice to get out your Coke-Cola, and Good Wilsons in Clarksville and Mademoiselles in Clarksville (my aunt worked there!), and Dill's Store in Dover and Sears-Roebuck catalogues, and getting your FINGER hung in the wringer washing machine...and Catholic services only in Latin (my grandmother took us every time we visited and I could not understand a word!)...and brownie cameras...and Savings Bonds drives at school...and bomb shelter drills at school...and fire escapes at school that were big tubes you slid down from the upper stories...and fall out shelters built in the back yard and in schools...and Lawrence Welk show...and Mighty Mouse....and Betsy Wetsy dolls....guess I just dated myself.... sheesh, but I ain't worried...cause Ira will just tell me I am a "spring chicken"!!!!
