Dear Marsha & Jan, Wow! What quick responses I received from you two! You are really on top of it! First, I must say I'm not sure how Elizabeth Campbell got in there. His first wife was Elizabeth Orton. The Orton Family Bible has been found and their marriage is recorded in it. They married Jan. 5, 1835 in Missouri. Somewhere I picked up his marriage to Miranda Sykes/Sikes as Jan 3, 1873. I believe it was at the Sykes/Sikes Family Reunion in Paris, TN. in 1993. After Miranda's death, I have him marrying Elizabeth Butler (the housekeeper) on Jan 8, 1876. Seems he liked to marry during the month of January! Anyway, the mystery has always been......where did he and Miranda marry? By the way, William Henry was my husband's grandfather. Sure wish some of the older folks were still around and could fill in our blanks for us. Thanks to both of you for your research and effort. Really appreciate you guys. The 1880 Census shows him married to Elizabeth Butler. Want a real hum-dinger to look for??? The father of Willis! Have never found when or where he was born, or his parent's names. I have always said he was born under a rock and married on a wagon train. Am beginning to believe I MAY BE RIGHT!! Well, that's enough of that! Thanks again. Carolyn Whitford
