I can't explain it I just feel it. (maybe hoping too hard, lol) My 3ed great I was told by my great uncle, I don't know how much I can trust him, our family for some reason don't trust him very much. But he say that our 3ed grand father was G.W. Gray , he said George Washington is what the G W stood for. born around 1828. No one know what state or any thing else. He married Mary Ann Meadows born in SC on 11-30-1829, berried in MS with her husband and oldest son, John O Gray dob 7-17-1857 pob Shoal Creek Al., Colhoun Co. My other Uncle told me that he had thought that G.W. Gray first name was George because he thought his fathers name was George, (I think it's questionable for now). Now What ???? > Hello, Beth Thanks for your nice note. My gr-gr-grandmother, Catherine Gray, was the wife of William O. Barger, Sr. They lived in Tippah County, MS until 1862. After the Civil War, they lived in Henderson County, TN, which was William's birthplace, and later, in the 1890's, they moved to Henry County, TN and moved west to Oklahoma during the Land Rush. We don't know who her parents were, but we have an old photograph of Catherine and William. She had long dark braids, and it appears that she was either Indian, or part Indian. There were Grays from Tippah County who were Chicasaw Indians who owned a mill and inn. I can't prove any connection, but it is an intriguing possibility. One of the hard parts of researching Grays is that there were so many of them in West Tennessee.
