Jan, I just finished reading a book taken from the Tennessee Confederate veterans questionnaires. These were sent out by the TN State Library at two different times, 1915 and 1922, so to be helpful, your ancestor must have been alive or only recently deceased at that time. I have seen copies of the questions sent, and they would be a treasure trove of information. Names of grandparents, including maiden names; occupations of parents; just to list a few. These are in the State Library, but I don't know how they're indexed or if they're available on line. Some names were listed in the book, but not all, and the only one that looked familiar was Robert C. Pafford. He was referred to in a footnote. I think that a few Union veterans were included, but not many. The important criterion was that they were born or lived in Tennessee. This should be helpful to someone.
