    3. Hi Sue, A little history of the newspapers. Stewart County Times began in 1870 with J. E. Flood, a danged Yankee carpet-bagger, LOL!!!!, came to Dover and started it and called it the Dover Record. The paper kept on tho the name changed off and on. C.W. Crockett (incidentally the grandson of ole Davy himself who according to legend once made Stewart Co. a stompin ground) was owner in late 1870's. Called it the Dover Courier. Then there was a Dr. Stegar, a Will Ross and on and on with others until 1942 when it got sold to Leaf Chronicle. Anyhow has been called Stewart Co. Times since 1922. (was the Breeze for a while) Now Stewart-Houston Times. Information on Tn. State Library and Archive holdings of newspapers can be found at http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/paper-d.htm#Dover. Hope this helps you, jan ----- Original Message ----- From: Harry Buchanan <102477.1340@compuserve.com> To: <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 13, 1999 8:34 PM Subject: Dover Newspaper > Did Dover (Stewart Co) have a newspaper in the mid 1800's?
