Jan, Yep, that's the family. Eliza is his widow. Benjamin is my great grandfather. I think he was captured at Ft. Donelson and after the war practiced medicine in Stewart and Houston Co, but I have never found his name in a list of early doctors. There is lot to be learned about him, but Henry S. Palmer is where my trail ends at present. When he married Eliza in 1828, he was living in Dickson Co.; she was was in Louisville, KY and the wedding was announced in Dickson, Nashville and Louisville. From his probate records it appears that he may have had a business in Dover and he was apparently well travelled. I'd appreciate any suggestions on where I might look for leads. Sue Message text written by INTERNET:DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com >There is a Palmer household #232 in 1850 census. It is composed of Elisha Palmer 44 born in Va, Thomas 20 born in TN (as are all the others after Elisha), Mary 22, Benjamin 18, Henry 12, Alice 10, Juliet Conley 23, Andrew Conley 32 who is a Methodist "preacher", and Ider 4. Dunno if that will help but may be some kin to the Henry you mentioned.<
