    2. Subj: Mysteries Solved Date: 99-07-12 10:31:37 EDT From: gildent@email.msn.com (gildent) To: Fireseeker@aol.com Unfortunately, there aren't that many mysteries I have solved! Most I come across just remain mysterious much to my resolve for finding the answers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, anyway, here's a little one. In 1899 Marcus Clayburn Gilmore married his new bride Julia Bone. His parents lived at the bottom of Cedar Hill on Bear Creek Road outside of Vanleer. Marcus built a new home for himself and his new bride starting the year they married. Family history passed down said that during the civil war a confederate soldier came to the site of this house to hide from the union soldiers searching for him. He was hidden in the root cellar, but was found anyway and shot . Well, I knew he couldn't have been hidden in the farm house that Marcus built because it wasn't there in the civil war. There are remains next to the farm house of an older house foundation, but I wondered who lived there since it wasn't Marcus or his parents. So I went to the courthouse in search of property titles, etc... and found that during the Civil War the property at the top of Cedar Hill was owned by the Nichols Family and was referred to as Nichol's Hill. So, it must have been the Nichol's that hid the soldier and owned the house that went on the foundation that is left today. Have a great day!
