Now I understand. I thought I was on a list that had something to do with a crossing, as in covered wagons. Ha Ha. I am looking for information, and maybe someone out there can help. First, I live in California, and have never been to Tennessee. I was born and raised in Missouri, and came to California at the age of 15. I am trying to find information on John Pemberton, whose parents, William Pemberton and Nancy Skaggs, came to Henry County, Tennessee about 1823. John Pemberton married "A. Hill" in 1831. They had my gggrandfather, William Carroll Pemberton April 1, 1832, in Paris, Henry County, Tennessee. Soon after his birth they left Tennessee, and went to Arkansas, then Missouri. "A. Hill" died in Greene County, Missouri sometime around 1839. What I know about "A. Hill" is that she was born in November, 1816. She was quite young when she married John Pemberton, only about 14. She was 15 when their first child was born. I am not really certain what her name was, as I have a letter dated 1940, that states her name as "A. Hill". I find it strange though, that they would name the first born William (which would be after John Pemberton's father), but the Carroll is a mystery. There is no history of Carroll's in my line of Pemberton's. I am wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the Carroll surname. Perhaps her maiden name could have been Carroll? I tried writing the library in Henry County, looking for direction on how to find a marriage certificate, as wouldn't there had to of been a bound issued, if someone is under age? They told me there is no records dating that far back. Can anyone offer any suggestions on what steps to take? Thanks! Debbie gdkats@aol.com
