Chris, I'm not sure sure you want to 'go here'.........at least not with me..... This is 'personal' (and painful).....I'll help where I can. I don't live in the area....only related by marriage to the '23rd' and the folks who lived there. Temper what I have to say.......the facts are true (to the best of my knowledge).....'trash' my editorial comments (I'll try very hard to keep them to a minimum and 'focused')......but....forgive me my sins if I stray. Agreed ????? This is what I have to say to you......... a. I have been to the 'Reunion' .....but not during the last few years. b. I consider Dan Martin a personal friend, though I have never seen his face or shook his hand, but.....he knows more about Tom Evans and the events surrounding his death than anyone I know (except maybe Ira). c. You will NOT get any HELP in this matter from the 'locals'....they will HIDE everything (not being able to obtain a transcript of the trial is one indication of where you are going). d. You are trying to get 'damaging' information about people who have campaigned for and gotten elected US Senators from Tennessee, particulary Henry County (and this extends to Illinois, where my sister is engaged to the Attorney General). Your going nowhere here....... e. These folks have spent a 'LIFETIME' trying to 'ERASE' their families past....they DON"T WANT YOU HERE....just like they have abondoned the graveyards where their families are buried in N. Benton County......they don't want YOU REMINDING THEM of their heritage. They have spent their lives trying to cover it up. f. So.......Let's have some fun......there's another LIST I setup a long time ago at Rootsweb.com with this one....let me know, and I'll give you subscription instructions so that we can discuss this 'issue' PRIVATELY. Dave ------------------------------------------------------------------- >Why? Why after 75 years does no one want to discuss it? >I met Dan Martin last summer at the Mt. Zion reunion. Were you there? How are you tied >to the 23rd? Are you a resident of Henry County? > >I am very interested in talking to anyone who might have firsthand >information about the murder and/or the events leading up to it. How broad >was the community conflict that revolved around moonshine? Who would know? > >Does anyone know how I can get a copy of the True Detective magazine that >carried an article about this event? > >Thank you so much for the information to this point. I live in Kentucky >where I publish a newspaper, so I have very little time to get back to Paris >or Big Sandy to continue this research. Anything I can do via the Internet >is certainly convenient. > >Thanks again, >Chris Evans >
