I debated on answering this publicly, believing the original posting was "out of place" and not quite responsible, but since Stewart's "integrity" seems to have been attacked in this message, I feel I have no choice but to do so. Sites are linked to on the basis of a number of factors and those considerations are not taken lightly. Briefly, and not in full, they are as follows: a) the site we link to does not attempt to repeat or be a repetition of anything Stewart is already doing which simply wastes time for researchers trying to find additional information on sites which either provide a new slant or fresh new material of a type not offered on Stewart and not already being built for Stewart...we link to many many sites who do work with us on this, b) the site (or part of it) must be dedicated to Stewart Co., of interest to our researchers, and of website integrity in terms of organization and documentation, and perhaps most importantly in this particular situation, c) "terms of use" for the site must agree with the standards and philosophy of the Stewart team and site owner which basically state that public information is free information, no one has a "corner" on the public info market, that posting to such a site does not entail undue and restraining "conditions of use", that legality AND ethical considerations are taken into consideration in setting those terms of use, and that the owner of the site being linked to has a thorough understanding of copyright, fair use, and their philosophies for providing information unselfishly and without need for more and that this seems to mesh with the philosophy of Stewart team. No one around here has a "corner on the market" for beating the bushes and burning the midnight oil in order to provide free access to information for our researchers...and as those who have used our site for several years are well aware a great MANY hours, days, weeks, months have gone into building such a prolific site. However we do NOT request that anyone using the information we freely provide, transcribe, travel, and beat the bushes to provide have to "write us for permission" to use our material. Feel free! It is the our pleasure to provide the information, our unselfish desire to give of our time, and it is our pleasure that it be used. If you have further questions Stan, please write ME off list. These folks need to get on with what they do best! jan Site Owner and buck stops here! <vbg> Cher and Jim Co-CC's Listowner: Tnstewar-L@rootsweb.com Tnstewar-D@rootsweb.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <Yelowstone@aol.com> To: <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 1999 9:40 AM Subject: New Dickson, Stewart, and Montgomery co. cemetery listings > Hello everyone! > > Vanessa and I have added several new cemetery listings to our web site.
