Hi Dave, You mentioned the "surnames Beaton and Bethune....who were quite prominent in old Stewart, Humphreys, Houston and Benton Counties........are the same.....pronounced ...bee-toon'......." Have you ever heard of the surname BETHANY being an Anglicized version of those names. I have a Charles Homer BETHANY who was in Benton Co., TN from the mid-1840's to the mid-1860's. He migrated from Lincoln Co., TN or possibly AL. His wife, Margaret Couch Williams, died about 1860 in Benton Co. and he married Martha Angelina Pierce in Henry Co. July 8, 1861. I have records of BETHANY's in AL, GA, MS, SC, & NC from the 1730s to the present and all during that period. But I cannot find any documented connections between them & C. H. Any thoughts on whether this could be a distant relative of your Beatons or Bethunes? It is believed that the BETHANYs were also of Scottish descent. Thanks, Jean Cloke
Wow, Dave! That is interesting! Do you have to be a McKenzie to be in those charts? All those my folks' stomping grounds, but I don't think I have a drop of McKenzie blood... Now Dave, if you have not had to go change your drawers from laughing too hard, we needa get back to biz here. I got a bushel load of ancestors hiding under rocks. (Probably scared of me). Time to tell these folks about DC Crossing and why it is necessary. Time to tell them bout county boundary lines changing without folks moving which makes census records a MESS if you don't know bout the danged lines. Time to tell em bout folks migrating a mile down the road and winding up in another courthouse. Time to tell them why you founded this list in the first place so we did not all go nuts looking under rocks. Time for them to tell US what counties they lost WHO in so we can start looking again. You got that grin off your face yet??? jan

<BG> Mop up the sneezles and be nice, Dave. I irritated someone by posting a column written a year ago, to another list entirely, sent to thousands out there and one person I never heard tell of took me personal. Man I hope the other thousands don't or my email box is gonna be a MESS! LOL!
Nah you didn't miss it. I didn't post it to DC. I was trying to get something out in a hurry so used one of my real old ones and only posted it to its own list this week. I got called to Tenn this week cause an aunt was in the hospital, and it has been a real rough week anyhow, and I didn't have time to write one. So I did what I do a lot, pulled an old one out. Sometimes I worry if I post an old one where I KNOW folks already saw it, they get bored, so I didn't post it here or Stewart. Also to be honest, I was in a hurry and didn't take time to post anywhere else.
Jan: I'm confused too. I try to keep up with the e-mails, but must have missed something. Speaking of missing something. I must have missed the "Sunday Afternoon Rocking" completely. I knew I didn't read it and I went through my "old mail" and it's not in it either. Did you send one out this past weekend? I really enjoy reading them and usually will read them out loud for my mother. She can relate to most of the memories of her life she experienced in your stories. Hope what ever this is brewing will be all right. I love this list and everyone on it. Paulette
Cher......Welcome home, we've missed you.............

<BG> If I had not run into so many strange things lately, I would swear it was a conspiracy. The person accusing SAR (a COLUMN) of "being mean" to her responded. <BG> Now I fully admit I have not been keeping up with DC lately and only today decided to try to get more active cause I told Dave I would. But whatever, I guess my SAR message today on "feuders" musta hit a nerve...wonder how many other thousands I made mad out there? It WAS NOT posted on DC by the way cause you saw it a year ago, I use old ones when I am lazy or tired. I didn't take the time to post it at all except to its own list...I have been nursing a sick aunt this week and didn't feel like writing new one...at any rate...it musta hit a nerve. <BBBG> WHOA...ya sure don't wanna write a column and send it out to a few thousand or brush your teeth on Saturday night, do ya???? ....ROTFLOL!!! BRING ON some more full moons, bring em on! I can handle it, especially when they border on the rediculous. Dave, you got some strange sense of humor. I think I do too.
Rhonda, It is so good to 'see you'.. I will get back in the traces for a while and see if I can help some of these good folks... then in March or April I will be heading out again..<g> Cher ----- Original Message ----- From: <Tinitiger6@aol.com> To: <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2002 11:52 PM Subject: Re: Home again! Rene' What a story of courage..and love This is great...and you all paid the price for that beautiful baby... Kinda makes ya feel like alls well that ends well.... Thank you.... not being a mother myself I 'mother' you all and mother vicariously... as an Auntie~ Cher ----- Original Message ----- From: Rene Seigh <naysay@hiwaay.net> To: <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2002 8:41 PM Subject: RE: Dad...Am I a good Mom ??? This is long, but I want to share the story of what we have been through this year, and how wonderfully and blessed we all feel now. In August of 2000, two days before her 19th birthday, I found out my daughter was pregnant. I was devastated. We convinced her to go to her community college for one more semester, then move back home in December, when her semester was over. It was hard, being pregnant and going to school, but she made it through. We rearranged our house to welcome her back. I bought maternity clothes and baby things. She was very very careful to take care of herself throughout her pregnancy. On April 17, I was with her all night and the next day at noon my husband and I welcomed our new granddaughter into the world. I was terrified about my daughter being a mother and trying to build a life for herself and the baby. Later that night, the doctor discovered that the baby had a heart defect and she was medflighted to a medical facility 100 miles from our home. Five days later she had open heart surgery, and my daughter and I stayed at Ronald McDonald house for 10 days while the baby recovered. My daughter pumped her breasts 3 times a day so that she could nurse the baby. She stayed with her most of the day and a lot of the night. She held the baby while the doctor took the chest tubes out of the baby's chest when I had to leave the room. To make a too-long story shorter, the baby is now healthy and wonderful and I couldn't imagine my life without her! My daughter is a marvelous mother, and she never has to ask because her dad and I tell her often how incredible a mother she is. I, on the other hand, cannot remember ever asking my father if I was a good mother, though I love my father dearly and we have a decent relationship. I've definitely had many days when I wondered if I was doing the right things with my children. Parenting is not easy. When we are young, we look up to our parents as being perfect and having all the answers. But when we have children ourselves, it seems like a grand experiment. "Well, try this and if it works, great, if it doesn't, try something else." We can only do the best we can. That is what I tell my daughter. I support her in all her endeavors (she just started back to school). I am just joyous to have this time with my precious grandchild, knowing that one day they will move out and I won't get to have such an active part in their lives. My 2 cents...
