    1. Willie Peacock in 1840 Henry Co. Census
    2. Ray Horton
    3. My GGG Grandfather, Wiley/Willie Peacock and family appears in the 1840 Henry County census (p482), and his oldest son, my great great grandfather, Dr. Rufus Wilie Peacock, was in the 1850 Henry Cnty. census (residing at the Manley residence), while his mother and siblings are found in the 1850 Carroll Cnty Census. Wiley and Lefa Peacock and family left Wayne cnty NC and settled in this area of TN abt. 1832-1836, first in Henry. I'd like to find out specifically where they were located in Henry Co. in 1840. Also, any suggestions on how to find out just where and when Wiley/Willie died/buried (prob. around 1845). Only thing I have on Wiley is an obit of Rufus that says his father was a "wealthy planter." Also I'm told there is a Willie Peacock on tax list for 1836 3 rd. dist. 1poll. Does anyone have access to these tax lists to see if he's on any others bet 1832-1845. The Wiley/Lefa Peacock children, besides Rufus, according to the Carroll Cnty 1850 census were Nancy (m.Kirkland), Barney W., Mary Ann (m. John Bean Vickery), Peneicy (m. Steven M. Thompson), Elizabeth M., Amanda C., and Lefa L. Also, Rufus married Mary Jane Woodson in Gibson Cnty in 1852, then Martha Davie in Haywood Cnty in 1860, then Ann Martha (Norfleet) McCullogh in Clarksville in 1870. His daughter Mignonette "Nettie" by 2nd wife Martha, was my g grandmother. She married Harry E. Horton, who might have been from this area of TN. Any help would be appreciated. - Ray Ray Horton sunray@erie.net

    3. I've been a member of this list for a couple of years, but hadn't visited the Benton County web site for awhile. I know y'all do a lot of work on that, too. I was soooo excited recently to find a bit about my grandfather and grandmother's (Joe and Ethel Goodman) old homeplace up by Pilot's Knob. I love the fact that stories have been collected, not just names, dates, and facts. I haven't found that on other web sites. Thanks to you all for the work that you do. Let me see how the next month pans out and maybe I could transcribe just a little. 3. I have another relative named William Pardon b. 5/5/1853, wife Sarah Howard Brown b. Jan 14, 1861. They are my great grand parents. They lived around the Ruskin cave area. I was told a story about Sarah picking blackberriies close by the cave. She said she could pick 10 gal. a day. They put up what they needed and sold the rest. This was around late 1800's or very early 1900's. The road they lived on was called Pardon Road. Up until 45 or 50 years ago we took several family trips to Ruskin Cave. I remember walking in a creek that was very rocky. I thought it was the most beautiful place in the world. I remember my daddy showing up where his mother was born. Her name was Mary Elizabeth Pardon b. 10/8/1890. They moved to West Tennessee abt. 1905. Does anyone know of this family. I don't know who Williams parents were. It has been passed down that Sarah's parents were the Howards from England. Another story passed down was that Williams mother was a fat Irish lady with a very large bosum. This is the only thing my grandmother remembered about her grandmother Pardon. The spelling of the Pardon name has many variations. I have found them under Pardon, Pardun, Parton, Partin. Anyway this is another one of my deadends. If anyone can help with it , sure would appreciate it. BJ

    3. (Welcome to your extended family Ashley......Dad) Folks, Anyone connect to this line of McKenzie-Brewer..????? http://www.rootsweb.com/~tndigs/margaret.htm Margaret was Nicholis's 1st wife.........and I'm going to be a little 'brutal' here.....so don't flame me...(Nicholis went on to go thru 2 more wives.....before .....he had answer for his sins ...) Margaret was named after her grand-mother who immigrated to Wilmington, N.Carolina in 1774 from Scotland, where she had been reduced to 'bleeding' her and Gilberts' cattle and drinking their blood in order not to starve to death..... Margaret married Nicholis Brewer, Jr. in late April of 1838 on Sugar Creek <near Big Sandy> in the new Benton County......she gave him 9 known children in the FIRST 14 years, that they were married... before she died in 1859.....possibly at child-birth.......and for you women out there...you know that.... that is a pretty good feat....for any women.... Did she love him that much...?? Did she think it was her 'duty' ???...Was she a 'nut'..???........I don't the answer.....something just 'rubs me' the wrong way here about this relationship.....(you need to know that Nancy, Margaret's next younger sister, married Nicholis's younger brother, Daniel.....they had 5 kids in 10 years of marriage before Daniel died prematurely at age 29 in 1843)....... Here's the 'rub'........and my angst..... When Margaret died in 1859 at age 38......Nicholis buried her alone....... in the 'No Name Cemetery" in N. Benton County where the only other interments are a Slave and a Baby........Why ?????? Why there..??? The McKenzie family had large land holdings along the Pointe Road with a family cemetery at Willow Point along New Hope Road where all the other early McKenzies, some of the Beatons, ....whatever...... have been buried....... Why 'No Name"...??? Why alone...??? Your thoughts........ Dave

    3. HMMMM...well my gg grandmother was Philadelphia McElroy, dau of James McElroy and Rebecca Stokes. He was born about 1789 in Rockingham Co. NC. James was son of William McElroy and Mary Polly Hopkins of same. William was son of Archibald McElroy of Scotland who died they say, at King's Mountain, and Ann Aston. Archibald's parents were James McElroy and Sarah McCune of Va after arriving from across the pond in 1730 on the "George and Ann". They came with Irvines and McDowells. YOU KIN?? My gg grandmother married James Young Fitzhugh and is buried at Trinity Churchyard in Stewart Co. jan At 10:59 PM 1/21/02 -0500, you wrote: >Jan, > >Which McEroy's are you related to? 1. Re: Some genealogy.....
    2. Dave, Thanks anyway on the BETHANY--BEATON/BETHUNE thing. Gotta check any possibility. I don't have a whole lot on Martha Angelina/Angeline PIERCE, who was my gr-gr-grandmother. But here is what I have. According to my own estimate from Census records, etc., she was born ABT 1839 in Henry Co., TN. Her father was Augustus PIERCE son of Stephen PIERCE & Lavinia GEERS, but I have not been able to find anything on her mother. I have seven siblings for Martha...... Elizabeth Caroline, Lavinia Catherine, William B., Pinckney Stephen, George W., Mary Jane, & Sarah R. Augustus is buried in Barbee Cemetery in Henry Co., TN. She married Charles Homer BETHANY July 8, 1861 in Henry Co., TN, and moved to Benton Co. where he lived. C.H. already had seven children of his own and a step-son. This was his third marriage. Martha & C.H. had at least 12 children, the second being my gr-grandmother, Martha Jane. Sometime toward the end of the Civil war they moved to Texas Co., MO and remained there until about 1873 when they moved to Newton Co., AR. After C.H. died in Dec. 1900, she kept the property for a while, but then began moving around living with her children for several months to a year or so at a time. She died in August 1915 near Earlsboro, Pottawatomie Co., OK while living with one of her daughters, and is buried in an unmarked grave in the Earlsboro Cemetery. My grandmother showed me where the grave was years ago, so at least we know where it is. I hope to get a stone on it this year. There are a couple of discrepancies in the information I have accumulated that disagree with the above info. One is that some other BETHANY researchers have her middle name as Lucretia instead of Angelina. The second is a family story that Martha Angeline PIERCE was abandoned as an infant on the doorstep of the home of a minister, Augustus PIERCE. Martha was at least part Indian and may have been full-blood. The PIERCE family took her in and raised her as one of their own. It has been speculated that she was abandoned during the removal of the Cherokee's to Indian Territory since two of the trails used went through the area of Henry Co., TN where the PIERCE family lived. One theory is that her mother had died and she was left there so she would be taken care of. This is about all I have on her, other than a couple of pictures other researchers have sent me. I can send those directly to you, if you like. Do you have some additional info on Martha or C.H.? Thanks and have a good day, Jean
