Hello' I have recently learned that my great grandfather might be the son of Thomas Tyler Valentine, do not have any real information about him, but with your permission, will give your addy to a cousin who is doing internet research, only, I think. We are descended from Martin Van Buren Valentine and his daughter from his second marriage, Harriet White Valentine she married Walker Roberts Littleton. Thought some of you women might be interested in what the Supreme Court of the United States had to say on YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES in 1872.......times have changed, I understand......just thought, you'd like to know what your g-grandfathers thought that your role was in society.........sans, 'the NOBLE and Benign Ofices of WIFE and MOTHER'.......SUCH 'progress' you have made thru 'Nature herself"...... In 1872 in Bradwell v. State of Illinois, an Illinois woman was denied the right to be an attorney based solely on her sex. The United States Supreme Court held, "[T]he civil law, as well as nature herself, has always recognized a wide difference in the respective spheres and destinies of man and woman. Man is, or should be, woman's protector and defender. The natural and proper timidity and delicacy which belongs to the female sex evidently unfits it for many of the occupations of civil life. The paramount destiny and mission of woman are to fulfill the noble and benign offices of wife and mother. This is the law of the Creator." And Men.....'Women's Protector and Defender'.........only if THEY 'Let' us...right <my comment>...??? So I say 'Goodnight' to all you 'Studs' .......ahh...sorry...'Sperm Donors'......is the more Politically Correct phrase.... So I bid you.....Sleep on this.......these words......'Wife and MOTHER'......emph....the "MOTHER of my CHILDREN' phrase, I've had repeated to me lately in Court by a Judge (female).....my question to you Women....'Do You Know What Your're Doing ???" Dave
I see you are working on the Shores family. I am also working on the Shores family. The names you mentioned, I don't have, but then I don't have much on the Shores family. My husbands great grand mother was Mary Eliene Shores (B)1836 Georgia, Died 1883,in Ala.either Elmore or Coosa CO. she MARRIED Thomas Jefferson (T.J) Dendy. They had a son they named Jefferson Shores Dendy and when he married Josephine Alsup, they named one of their sons Johnie Shores Dendy, Jefferson and Josephine had a daughter that named her son Henry Shores Thornburg. That is my husbands brother. His parents are , Marvin Frank Thornburg and Mary Pansy Aliene Dendy Thornburg. If you have further information on the Shores family and don't mind me having it I would love to see if they are some of the same family. I haven't been able to find much on the Shores family my self. If any one knows any thing on the surnames I have mentioned I would like to hear from them. Thanks for your time. Gail, A few things.... 1..Glad to have someone new to the list.......these are a good bunch of people.....my friends... 2..Don't be afraid to participate.....there are over 300+ people on this List...from youngins' to really 'rank' old timers'....they're all kittens by heart....you get some, to put it mildly......<I'd like to better define them here..but .. politeness requires that I use other terms>...Jerks <that fits>.....IGNORE THEM, they won't be here long...... 3...Though I'm in my early 50's....I'm not senile....I don't forget things ...as yet <my car doesn't turn to whichever way I turn my head while I'm driving......and 'crash into' people standing on the Sidewalk ...as they do here in Arizona and Florida....Midwesterners mostly...I still speed and don't hold-up traffic and...more importantly...leave my 'bleanker' on forever>.... 4. Responses to your posts may be 'slow'.. as the majority of folks on this List are 'slow' because they are OLD....or so they tell me...personally I think they use it as an excuse........ 5.. I got my sorry Butt out of bed.....<recovering from the Flu that some of you sorry-ass Midwesterners brought with you to Arizona....God, I wish you'd stay away from our State..we can't stand yYOU and wish you'd stay out-of here>....so ....shortly I'll catch-up..I'll get you what you need..... 6...These are very helpful people on the List.....but, you need to understand 'their nature'....they're not very 'motivated' sometimes...prefer to sit-to-on-the-porch and Rest....from whatever they're doing....... Will get what you need.....just not right now.....don't get your pantyhouse in a knot...please...... Huuu... Cherries have Stones! <g> Well no telling what county! Martha was on DC and prob Stewart a while... She gave me this book as a gift when we had a Danville Crossing Homecoming in 1999. Some of you remember that? DCer's we had umpteen folks from across the country to meet at Paris Landing (near Paris Tn.) for a long weekend of camaraderie, research, cemetery stomping, Book buying, Auction buying, hum..we had a Banquet and prizes galore! Everyone had a super time... The next year with healthy issues in my family, Cacky Cline graciously took the helm and they had a super event too... So my point DC is BIG... it is 6 counties and researchers are literally global.... As for me....my life is very erratic and putting together another Homecoming is too time consuming for me right now. Because of that I am disolving the Committee. The funds that I am holding (in a bank locally) will be equally divided among Dickson, Benton, Henry, Houston, Humphreys and Stewart Counties, asap. I intend to donate the money to the local Historical/Genealogical Societies or to their Libraries Gen. department, on behalf of Danville Crossing and its members. Now do I have to make cobbler with all these Cherries and Stones or does any of you connect with them? If not...Iz got other resources ...just as hot!<LOL> One of them will light your fire!
