I ALSO MISSED THE SURNAME ROLL CALL. SORRY . "WREN" REGARDS, VERNON
> I know how you feel. I can't find my great grandfather. My > sister said "Forget it. When you get there, just ask him!!" *******Shirley, what you said there really hit home! <vbg> For YEARS I could not find my own great grandpa which seemed so frustrating and silly to me that Mama and her siblings did not have a clue who their grandfather was! (yup, there was a story there all right!)....well when you least expect.... last winter I shot out a query toward Davidson Co. list about the company she HAD vaguely remembered hearing he worked for (no longer there), and got untold responses about that company...but also got one fella who was kinda like "by the way maybe you might be kin to...." SHEESH. MIGHT BE? It turned out to be Mama's first cousin she had not seen since babyhood....who could not help much but DID know of a ninety year old aunt still living that Mama thought must be dead by now and had a whole different surname than the one she had when Mama knew her... we called the aunt who happily supplied the name and the county someplace we never DREAMED of looking and with a name much different than we thought it was....Clarksville library nicely did a look-up and the grandfather I could not peg suddenly had a name! Sooooo....guess I just want to encourage you a little there.... I thought I would have to wait till the great beyond to find him too.... really had given up hope...so maybe this will happen for you too! jan > > > ==== DanvilleCrossing Mailing List ==== > GENEALOGY is like Hide & Seek: > They Hide & I Seek !! > > > >
Marsha, Thanks for your prompt reply. I don't have any further information on Julia, just that she married Charles W. Matheny Sept. 11, 1864 in Henry Co., TN. I don't know if she died young or not, but Charles married Amanda Ross on Dec. 8, 1874 in Benton Co., TN. Lillie
Lillie: Off the top of my head and a quick search, no. But I am still researching myself. I will continue to look for you. My Brisedines are William/Isaac/Richard/Perry etc. Most from originally from Essex Co. VA. A listing of the Brisendine Cemetary can be found at Henry Co.'s gen web page. All of those are my relatives. I'll keep looking. Marsha Marsha
Kathy: Thanks for responding. My Sykes is John Wesley or Westley Sykes. He came from Stewart County and settled in either Henry County or Calloway. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Hazel Cemetary in Hazel, Kentucky. They are sort of connected. He married I think a Fanny and they had several children: Minnie, (my ggrandmother) Mollie, Flossie, Grace, Will, Walter. Minnie married Bert Franklin Wilson and had my grandfather Lester Aubrey (an only child) Grace married his brother Nack Wilson, no children. Flossie Married Charlie George and populated a goodly portion of Kentucky. (HAHA). Mollie ended up in California I think. Married and had a least one child. Walter ran away from home and went to Hugo, Oklahoma. I posted a query there, but they haven't posted it yet. Will married Ethel Bradley and had a ton of kids. Since Miss Minnie died before my mother was born and Grace died when I was 11, I never really got to hear about the family. Most of the immediate family are dead and all the cousins are scattered to the four winds. I will share everything I know about these if they are the ones you are looking for. Here's hoping!! Marsha - I have this group of people in a book I purchased about the Sikes/Sykes family. My information shows James Allen Sikes and Frances "Fannie" Guerin were the parents of: Mary Magdalene Sikes, b. January 9, 1880 who married Tom Lowry. They had two children, Ruel Lowry and Connie Lowry. Mattie B. Sikes, b. August 10, 1881 and died December 6, 1889 at age 8. J. Walter Sikes, b. May 18, 1883 and died April 27, 1906 at age 22. He is buried in Frogville, Oklahoma. Minnie Sikes was born March 17, 1885. She married Bert Wilson and they had one child, Lester Aubrey Wilson, who was born November 8, 1907. Grace Sikes was born January 22, 1887 and died December 31, 1967 at age 80. She married Nack Wilson. He is buried in Hazel Cemetery, Hazel, Ky. William Chesley Sykes was born May 16, 1891 and died April 11, 1966. He was married to Ethel Mae Bradley and they had several children: 1) Audrie Eron Sykes; Orvis Willard Sykes; Bertha Edith Sykes; Ruth Sykes; Willie Mae Sykes; and Hilda Frances Sykes. Ula Flossie Sykes was born December 28, 1893. She married Charles Edward George and they had a bunch of kids. James Allen then married Myrtle McLean and they had two children: Cordelia Sykes and Louise Sykes. If these sound like your people, then we are definitely cousins. Let me know if this matches with her information. Guaranteed, this is not my original research, it comes from someone else and I have found some errors in it. I would be happy to share my Ged.com file with you or send you a printed copy of the information I have in my family tree. Kathy
My roll call names are: MASSEY (MASSY) AND MEEK(S). B.J. (Massey) Clay
Shirley, I'll bet your sister is just like mine. ? THEY think I'm nuts to be so exhuberant every time I find a new clue or an ancestor! Even my son gets a bored look on his face when I start telling him of my latest discoveries. ---------- >> > ---------> > > > And, some of those tears could be because they see us struggling, and wish > > they had left better records !!!!! :-) > > At the rate I'm going, I'll probably MEET them in the great beyond before > > I FIND > > them in this life ! > I know how you feel.
