    2. Harry Buchanan
    3. Jan, Yep, that's the family. Eliza is his widow. Benjamin is my great grandfather. I think he was captured at Ft. Donelson and after the war practiced medicine in Stewart and Houston Co, but I have never found his name in a list of early doctors. There is lot to be learned about him, but Henry S. Palmer is where my trail ends at present. When he married Eliza in 1828, he was living in Dickson Co.; she was was in Louisville, KY and the wedding was announced in Dickson, Nashville and Louisville. From his probate records it appears that he may have had a business in Dover and he was apparently well travelled. I'd appreciate any suggestions on where I might look for leads. Dunno if that will help but may be some kin to the Henry you mentioned.<

    3. Marsha, You apparently have done research at the library. Can you tell me whether there are any books or records available there, that are not accessible from the court house records? I've ordered and carefully checked every film the FHC has to offer on Henry Co; from it's formation in 1821 through 1840, ( when land records indicate that the family Patriarch , and some of his children , had moved on.) His name appears over and over in all of them , except the will and probate records, which would help establish names and relationships. Unfortumately, he died in another state, whose courthouse burned, destroying all the will and probate records ! I have never been able to get a handle on his children : when, nor where, they were born and married; the ones who remained in Henry Co, nor their spouses and families. Are there any church records that might list members, births, marriages , etc in the early years? ( I don't even know what their demonination was! ) I've received a wealth of information, on some of my lines in NC and SC, that were found in "loose papers". Are there any of those, and do you know what they might include ? For example:Court Minutes show that my ancestor was charged with an affray, and that the jury found him "not guilty". I would love to review records of the trial. Do any exist? A couple of years ago I called the library, but was told they were too busy, and suggested I contact their genealogist to research for me. At that time, I didn't feel I had enough information to provide her with ( with the surname BROWN @ $15 an hour) and I didn't want to duplicate the work I had already done, or could do myself. Now that I have exhausted my resources, I understand that she is no longer available. The odds are against me!!!!!! If you have run across any history books for that time period, or any other information, I would really appreciate knowing of them. I live in CA., and can't go to check for myself. Thanks a lot, Marietta ---------- > Dennis: > > I am afraid I don't recognize the surname. However, have you tried the Rhea > Library in Paris. All court, birth, etc. is there. 3. Yup, Susie! One and the same! All kinds of things on that one I was barking up the wrong tree on! They WERE in Dickson for a while and although I haven't set it in concrete yet, it appears they were descendents of the Gardner Green renegade band of Cherokee, which is backed further by the memories of the ninety year old aunt we located and by the name "Gardner Green" that occurs in some Dickson Co. records...they finally got "found" in Marion in Montgomery Co. and that is where they still are in my research...haven't had time to do much more gold digging on them, but I do have a handle on WHO they are now, and know they had lots of kin there. They did after all wind up spelling their name as "Green" rather than the "Greene" that was passed down the line in our branch. I have NOT found evidence of the Confederate soldier part of the story passed down and I did learn that they cannot possibly be Irish as my grandmother had told me unless it is a line marrying in or she had this confused with another line. So I was barking up a lot of wrong trees and what I found was evidence of a "cover-up" way back when some of it due to a failed marriage and some of it due to native bloodline that was not a popular thing to have at the time....mostly however it appears to be a family rift that happened eons ago. jan ----- Original Message ----- From: Susie Grant <krista3@earthlink.net> To: <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 10, 1999 6:46 PM Subject: RE: On great grandpa's.... > Jan, > Is this by any chance the GREEN line you have been searching for? > Susie > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: j [mailto:unicorn@sun-spot.com] > > Sent: Saturday, July 10, 1999 1:35 PM > > To: DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com > > Subject: On great grandpa's.... > > > > > > > I know how you feel.
