Do you know which month the membership of Henry Co. Gen. Society begins? For instance, our local society's dues begin in September of each year. I would hate to send in dues now and have them be due again in 2 months. Thank you for letting us know the address. Do you think they have an email address also? Janie Ridley Bice jrbice1@airmail.net

I know this is probably really of base, but, I went to High School in Humphreys County in the 60's and graduated with a Guy named John Wesley SYKES. His father owned Sykes Furniture store in Waverly. This might be a long stretch but you might try to contact the SYKES family still living there in case they are kin to yours. Carol Price Watkins

I got the papers on my great uncle who was at Fort Donelson and I will have to remember how I went about it has been so long... also have you checked Confederate pension records or the Confederate questionaires? That is online at Tn. Dept of Libraries and Archives... Have you checked Davidson Co. yet? jan ----- Original Message ----- From: Harry Buchanan <102477.1340@compuserve.com> To: <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 10, 1999 8:29 PM Subject: Re: Surname Roll Call > Jan, > Yep, that's the family. Lucille: I would be grateful for the posting. I am working on my posting for the Calloway/Henry Sykes/Sikes. It was Sikes but somehow after they got to Henry County some of them became Sykes. There are at least 14 Sikes listed in the book "Marriages of Stewart co. Tn." (1838-1866) if anyone needs them I'll be glad to print any or all. none spelt Sykes. Lucille -----Original Message-----
Jan, I'd love to know which county this 1850 census is referring to. It looks like you may have found my gg grandfather. He is Benjamin Cyrus PALMER and would have been 18 years old in 1850. I think he was born and married in Henry County, but may have moved to Gibson County. Laura Darr j wrote: > Sue, > There is a Palmer household #232 in 1850 census. I have Elsie Caroline and James Patrick Quinn in my information along with their 11 children. If you need more information, let me know and I'll see what I have. Kathy Anderson Foster
I guess they are not related to my Carroll- Lawrence county GREENS. If you find them in Hardeman co though may be connected to my other set of GREEN gg-grandparents . That the gg-grandmother GREEN is suppose to be Native American ancestry but I have not found them as there are about 100 6 year old Mary Ann Greens on the 1860 TN census. I gave up on that search just now. Sorry Marsha, I forgot to mention. You are listed in the book. I just looked. You and your husband and daughter. Kathy
The earliest Sykes ancestor that I know about in my line is Arthur Sikes, who evidently is also your ancestor. My direct line is through Arthur to Henry to William Clay to Bertha. I bought a book from Henry Colyer Sykes, who also lives in Alabama, about a year ago. It is a wonderful book even though it does contain some errors. I do not know if Henry is online yet. The last I talked with him, he said he had a computer and knew how to turn it off and on and that was it. What's amazing to me if that he did all the research without any on-line resources. The book is almost 800 pages and cost me about $60. He also publishes a newsletter for the Sikes/Sykes family that costs a minimal amount for a year's subscription. If you would like his address, I am sure I could find it for you. When I talked to him last year, he still had some left, but I can't say whether or not that is still true. Ira Bell gave me his address initially, so I am sure that he probably has it as well and may know whether the book is still available. Kathy
