If you are sure he was a Valley Forge soldier, try contacting the Sons of American Revolution Library in Louisville, KY for info. If someone has joined the SAR on this ancestor you can secure acopy of the application and supporting documents. This library is probably one of the best overlooked genealogical libraries. Their records are especially strong for the NE United States and pretty good for the SE United States. The rest of the US is kind of hit and miss. But they do have a large collection of county histories. They also have a complete set of the US census micrfilms from 1790 up, and family history books that I have not seen anywhere else. The library is located in the national headquaters of the SAR at 4th and Kentucky Sts., Louisville, KY. The library staff is limited. Suggest you call to see what the procedure is for securing info via letter. They also have a web page on the internet. Time constraints of my 2 businesses prevent me from volunteering a search for you. I can' t even find time to go over there on my own research. Good Luck, Walker K. Hi Linda, What genealogy program do you use? I have FTM 6.0, I will be glad to send you a descendancy report of what I have. I'm leaving for TN tomorrow, going to Nashville, of course I will be doing research while I am there. Will let you know if I find anything new. Brenda
Suzanne, You wrote: "Could you check for a Lloyd JOHNSON in your Johnson's that would have been born about 1810-1911.....(typo??). Anyway, sorry, no Lloyd. Surprisingly, all three of my Johnson lines are maternal, ergo I have few Johnson surnames going forward - and only Benjamin Johnsons going backward. Stan, Did you make it to the Parrott Cementary? Lola
I sure do hope that someone out there can help me. I'm starting to wonder if my husband and his family exist, or if they're just figments of my imagination. :o) I am looking for in fo on John Thomas BURCHAM b. 14 Apr 1888. I assume that he was born around Stewart County, but you know what can happen when you assume! His father, whose name I don't know, died about 6 months before he was born. His mother's name was Sally. He had two older sisters, Lillie and Cora. His mother remarried a Mr. NASH, and they had at least two children, one of whom was a daughter named Orlene. John went on to marry Laura BRAKE, probably in Stewart County, and probably around 1914-1915. Their children were : Thomas B. b. 20 Oct 1916, John Henry b. 3 Sep 1918, Warren Gamaliel Harding b. 2 Nov 1920, Arthur William b. bet 1921-1924, Dorothy Orlene b. 17 Jul 1925, Gloria Laverne b. 21 Oct 1927, and Fay Newton (Newman?) b. 27 Jun 1930. Laura died 29 Dec 1930, and the children were split up. Dorothy and Gloria ended up with their Aunt Cora Galloway, and were raised in Memphis. The older boys were with their dad, but did spend some time in an orphanage in Tennessee. Fay, the baby boy, was raised by Laura's sister and brother-in-law, Mattie Belle and Cale Warfield. They raised him around Erin. This is all that I know. I'm married to one of Fay's sons, and I would like to do this genealogy in Fay's memory. He died this last January, and in the last few years, had been interested in finding out about his roots. I have a hard time even thinking about him as I'm typing this letter. If any of this information looks familiar to you, or if you can help me at all, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help, Tricia Burcham
Hi Linda, The earliest Barnes I have is a James & Mariah/Maria DANELE/DANIEL Barnes, James was born abt. 1810 in NC, Mariah born abt 1814 in SC, children that I have for them so far are - Allen b. abt 1836, Rebecca J b. abt 1840, William b. abt 1846, Barnett W. b. Feb. 1849, Charles F. b. Nov. 1853, Susan b. 1858, James W. b. abt 1863, this is from the 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870 & 1880 Stewart County census. I don't know any of James brothers or sisters so I don't know if this is the same line as your Barbary. Let me know if you think there is a connection. Brenda
Well Rita...I just found em in the 1850 Stewart Co. census too...Just about didn't because it is spelled "Rosymant" (LOL!!! Same census spells ggg grandpap Fitzhugh as Fitchen! <vbg>) Anyhoooooo.....here is what it has. Household 448 Albert Rosymant (with editor's note that it is now Rougemont) 27, farmer, born Switzerland; Rebecca 27 born Tenn., Idell 4 months, born Tn. Now dates being what they are, I suspect this may be the father of the Albert (Frank, Francis) Rougemont who married Nancy Sis Bell and had Myrtie.... but you will have to dig out some more than this to prove. jan ----- Original Message ----- From: j <unicorn@sun-spot.com> To: <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 14, 1999 1:30 AM Subject: Rougemont > WEll yup. HAH! Found it! Go to http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/civilwar.htm and look under "Pension Records"...this will give you information for obtaining. Costs $5 but if you are like me that is small taters when you want information about parentage etc. of ole grandpap and you are at your wit's end! jan ----- Original Message ----- From: Harry Buchanan <102477.1340@compuserve.com> To: <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 14, 1999 12:08 AM Subject: Re: Dover Newspaper > Jan, > > >Information on Tn. Well I am wondering if I got that confused...I am not finding exactly what I thought either...here is what I DID find though: Southern Claims Commission forms information http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/sccintro.htm Tennessee Confederate Soldier's Applications http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/csh_intr.htm Tennessee Confederate Physicians http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/docintro.htm Bibliography of Military Records on Microfilm http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/milhis.htm BUT ALSO SOMEWHERE there is this list of soldier questionaires taken early in this century of veterans of the war, very lengthy and helpful information, their parentage, their views of the south prior to the war, all kinds of things, and maybe it is late right now but I am not pulling where I ran into this stuff. Someone on here SURELY knows what I am talking about! And also there is a listing of pension records I know it! HEEEEELLLLP! I am old and senile!!!! (I've fallen and I can't get up???? LOL!!!!) jan ----- Original Message ----- From: Harry Buchanan <102477.1340@compuserve.com> To: <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 14, 1999 12:08 AM Subject: Re: Dover Newspaper > Jan, > > >Information on Tn.
