Hi Jan, I'm looking for the husband of: Mamie (Minnie) Pearl McKenzie, b.11-1887 in Benton Co., d. 1914 in Benton Co. who married and had a child with an Unknown COLLIER. Mamie's parents, Jethro & Jane (nee BUTLER) McKenzie, tried to prevent this marriage by locking Mamie in her room. Supposedly escaped and married him anyway. She died a few years later, and I assume her COLLIER husband remarried. They had at least one child but have not been able to identify him. Mamie was Debby's great aunt. Other cousins in the area would be HERNDON, YOUNG, DOTY & HERRINs. Mamie's brother, Fred S. McKenzie, after marrying a WIMBERLEY, went over to Waverly and married a CATHEY. John Malcomb was the son of Malcomb McKenzie and Mary Caroline Pierce. Hi Toni, Do you need Elizabeth Pierce and William L. McKenzie's other children. As a side input, William's brother, Malcom, was married to Mary Caroline Pierce of the John Pierce / Rachel Ross line. Do you know if Hiram Pierce is related to John Pierce, b. 1799, prob. NC, m. Rachel Ross in Cumberland, KY? John and Rachel lived in the Big Sandy area of Benton Co., TN. These are my ggg-grandparents. I have the children of John and Rachel, but don't have any of his siblings or his parents. Lillie Cotham

Stan, Are you looking for a Legate family cemetery or a cemetery located in the Legate area? There is a cemetery that is right on the Fort Campbell border that is the Dinkins cemetery that is in the Legate area. My husband has relatives all over this area and grew up in the Legate area. Just let me know and I might be able to point you in the right direction.......plus we still live in the area. Joetta
Jan, You have helped me already. I did have Nancy Winters parent's names except for her mother's maiden name. I have all the other information from a copy of a book from Ralph L.Winters from Nancy back. What I need to find out is about Nancy's husband Terrall Pinkney Underwood. Do you have any information on him? Thank you.. Lola
I had two Legate cemeteries pointed out to me while I was in Stewart co. One ..we had to go through Indian Mound and along a creek. It was on a very tall hill behind these reeally nice peoples house. Wilson Legate and a child's stones were there. There were other graves there, but no stones were visible. I took pictures of the owner's mailbox, and the stones....the pictures are being developed now. The other one was on Highway 76 just east of Dover (or in Dover). It was on the south side of the highway on top of another very tall hill. By this time, my cousin had injuried his knee, and noone else wanted any more exercise...so I didn't climb the hill. At the best of times, my sense of direction is bad... by that time, I wasn't even sure which direction was up...so I didn't want to start a long hike through trees and weeds alone. I don't know if my sister would have ask anyone to find me or not if I hadn't came back!! Lucinda

Hey Ira, How are you? I haven't been able to make the connections yet. Because I live in Daytona Beach, this time of year many friends and family who want to go to the NASCAR races come to visit me. This place has been really jumping. They have all gone home now and for last couple of days it has been reeeeeeeeally quiet. I haven't even opened the files on my pc yet but will do that next week. My current ROUGEMONT dilemma: I am of the opinion that Albert and Nancy had more children than just Mertie. According to the 1900 Census Nancy A. (widow) had 7 children of which 4 were living, to-wit: Albert F., Emma A. (my ggrandmother) and Annie R. The birth dates would fit and Mertie would have been married to Elige Carney so she wouldn't be counted in Nancy's household. I believe she is the 4th child. I hope to get more info on this matter this weekend and will let you know. Right now, that "gut feeling" tells me I'm right. Thanks. Rita I will be in Nashville this weekend for a couple of days. I will call you. -----Original Message----- From: GRIDDIP@aol.com <GRIDDIP@aol.com> To: DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, July 14, 1999 11:46 PM Subject: Re: Surnames >In a message dated 7/14/99 12:07:58 AM Central Daylight Time, >ritacc@n-jcenter.com writes: > ><< Emma was my Great Grandmother and she came to live > with us for a short time when I was a small child. Jan, Looks like you pretty much covered it! But, I will add a couple of things. The society does not meet on the fourth Tuesday in December either. And, as far as I know, lifetime memberships are still $15.00. I will check on this tomorrow for you. I too, would like to thank Rita and everyone else that make all the organizations possible, through their time and support.
