Hi Folks, Recieved my 'Homecoming" Tee-Shirt, Certificate and "Mover & Shaker" Award in the mail today from Cheryl and Vanessa. Want to thank each of you for them. Yoall <we've lived in Texas, so I can say that> are one of the greatest group of folks I have had the pleasure of being associated with. Sorry I missed the gathering, but will be there next year for sure as we have 2 family weddings to attend the 1st week of July back there. Look forward to seeing you and thanks again for making this one of the best places in genealogy. Dave
Jan, If you have time, would you mind looking up the marriage of Alexander Carroll Ellis to Eliza Ann Pool. The date I have is 15 Dec 1863 but I don't have a location. He was born in Calloway Co., KY, she (possibly) in Robertson Co., TN. They lived and died in Stewert Co., TN. Also, I'm looking for information on their son Grover Hendrix Ellis married Sarah Edna Fitzgerald. I don't have any information as to when they were married but assume it to be in the early 1900s. Thanks, Sandy
I currently have a few days free (which is a rarity!) and am offering Stewart Co. look-ups if I have the information available. I can ascertain cemetery listings, marriages in 1800's, a few other odds and ends. Please be as specific as possible if you can. Anyway, will be glad to help you if I can... wish I could do this more often (sure have a lot of debts to repay to many of you!) jan
I am looking for information on cemeteries in and around Vanleer Tn. that Terrel Underwood is suppose to be at. Does any one have that information? Thank you Lola J.
Lola, depends upon which Tennessee Surveyors District your looking in. http://www.tngenweb.org/tnland/survdist.htm I assume your thinking about the 12th Surveyors District which included Henry, Benton (Humbphreys) & Carroll Counties and not the 1st - NC Military Surveyors District which included Stewart, Houston, Humphreys, etc. You can find the 12th's ranges here: http://www.tngenweb.org/maps/sd~12~13.gif I would also suggest looking and reading the text on the first map for some very information. Hope this helps, Dave - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ >>Hi Gabbie, >> >>Do you happen to know where RANGE 4 would be located? >> >>Lola >> >> >>==== DanvilleCrossing Mailing List ==== >>GENEALOGY goes on... and on... and on...

OK, I was WRONG. <"I am wrong alot" are the magic words Debby likes to hear from me>. I due have a Melton connection to the Pierces as well. Need help on the following. Have no information on John Walter's ancestory or descendants. Descendants of John Walter MELTON 1 John Walter MELTON b: April 08, 1870 d: July 27, 1945 in Bastrop, MOREHOUSE PARISH, LA .. +Nancy (Mary) Ann McKENZIE m: May 11, 1892 b: September 30, 1868 in BENTON CO., TN d: December 21, 1950 in Bastrop, MOREHOUSE PARISH, LA Nancy (Mary) Ann McKenzie was the daughter of Malcomb J. McKenzie and Mary Caroline PIERCE, daughter of John Pierce and Rachel Ross. Must be kin down in Louisianna someplace. Any help appreciated. Dave
Hi Jean, This may not be a problem or inconsistent with the available data, or there could be 2 Mathew Meltons. Don't know..........in explanation: >From the 1842 County Court Minutes (note the 1842 date): July Term 1842: "Personally appeared in open Court Elexander McRea Guardian of Henry, Synthia Jose,, C. Chesterfield, John, F.L., Sally J., Julianna, A., and Roxanna Melton, Minor heirs of Mathew Melton Deceased and together with John D. Rushing and Lewis Brewer his securities and entered into and acknowledged their bond in the sum of Sixteen hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs for the faithful performance of said Guardian." <spelling, capitalization & punctuation as written>. This type of entry for Alexander McRae continued for years in the Court Minutes which as you know indicated that Alexander let the court review when & how much money of Mathews estate was spent for the welfare of Mathews children. As to Mathew being shown as working on the road in 1844: It was not uncommon for property to be bought in the name of or references made to homesteads of deceased individuals (as though they were actually living) until such time as a new landowner of record (deed) was recorded. Generally the transaction would be listed as or by "the heirs of Mathew Melton", in this case. The McKenzies bought property and deeds recorded in the name of Malcomb McKenzie, upto 12 years after his death. That changed when his minor sons reached majority and received their share of the estate with new surveys taken and deeds recorded. If you noticed from the above court citation, Chesterfield was one of Mathew's heirs, and if you recall from previous emails on this topic of road hands, Chesterfied eventually was listed as a 'hand' and indicated to be a landowner in replacement of Mathew in the court enumeration. I suspect Chesterfield reached majority, assumed his share of Mathews estate, and was recorded as the landowner of record, replacing Mathew. But then again, there could have been 2 Mathews. I'm not a Melton researcher so don't have any data. Some of you may also be interested in the Court entry just prior to the 1842 entry listed at the beginning of this email: "Personally appeared in open court Elexander McRea Guardian of Elizabeth McRea Minor heir of Elexander McRea to-gether with J.D. Rushing and Lewis Brewer his securities and entered into and acknowledged their bond ..<ommitted for brevity>......." What was the relationship between these 2 Alexander McRaes?? Were they Sr. & Jr. ?? Would a brother be a Guardian for a minor sister ???? Uncle yes, but brother ??? Hope this helps, Dave ========================================= At 12:39 AM 7/19/99 -0400, you wrote: > > I hope Doris won't mind my quoting her site, but if Mathew Melton d 1836, >who is the Mathew Melton working on the road in 1844? sorry Toni the map just covers the area N.& S. from the hill (Benton cut) above Faxon to the Tn.river and E.& W. from "DOG TOWN" to the " REDICK PLACE", these area's are on both sides of the "Crooked Creek", that runs through Faxon. this map only covers 1910 to 1980 so I looked in the 1880 Benton co Census in dist.#7-#8- but NO Harpers: if they were there they left the area before 1880.gabbie At 10:15 AM 7/19/99 EDT, you wrote: >Gabbie, > Any Harpers on this map? >Thanks Toni > > >==== DanvilleCrossing Mailing List ==== >My family Coat of Arms ties at the back ...... >is that normal ??? > >

Virginia, My greatgrandfather was Robert Lee Weaks of Stewart County and I have the Weaks family line back to William C Weaks, Sr. who along with his wife, Mary R. Weatherford, moved to Stewert County, Tennessee from Henry County, Virginia and Hartford County North Carolina in about 1803. He purchased 388 acres near the mouth of Cub Creek from James Atkins on February 27, 1821. He and Mary were the parents of ten children and are believed to be buried in the Weaks Cemetery on Cub Creek. Although I don't have the connection to your Thomas Weaks, I can provide you with Weaks data. Walter, I for one am very happy for you. It must be nice to have a place to go "home" to. I am glad you finally all got together. Congratulations Toni
Gabbie, Any Harpers on this map? Thanks Toni
I received this message from one of my Lankford cousin this morning and thought it was worth sharing with the list. Anne I'm reading more and dusting less. I'm sitting in the yard and admiring the view without fussing about the weeds in the garden. I'm spending more time with my family and friends and less time at work. Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experi- ences to savor, not to endure. I'm trying to recognize these moments now and cherish them. I'm not "saving" anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, or the first Amaryllis blossom. I wear my good blazer to the market. My theory is if I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries. I'm not saving my good perfume for special parties, but wearing it for clerks in the hardware store and tellers at the bank. "Someday" and "one of these days" are losing their grip on my vocabulary. If it's worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear and do it now. I'm not sure what my cousins would have done had they known that they would not be here for the tomorrow that we all take for granted. I think they would have called family members and a few close friends. They might have called a few former friends to apologize and mend fences for past squabbles. I like to think they would have gone out for a Chinese dinner, or for whatever their favorite food was. I'm guessing; I'll never know. It's those little things left undone that would make me angry if knew my hours were limited. Angry because I hadn't written certain letters that I intended to write one of these days. Angry and sorry that I didn't tell my husband and parents often enough how much I truly love them. I'm trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives. And every morning when I open my eyes, I tell myself that it is special. Every day, every minute, every breath truly is a gift from God. If you received this it is because someone cares for you. If you're too busy to take the few minutes that it takes right now to forward this, would it be the first time you didn't do the little thing that would make a difference in your relationships? I can tell you it certainly won't be the last. Take a few minutes to send this to a few people you care about, just to let them know that you're thinking of them.
