    2. Anyone around that has any info on the Stavelys and/or Colliers? I am trying to find out where these family came from - NC or SC. Once I know the state, then I would love to know what counties? Thanks, Anne

    2. Randy, I don't believe that the picture I want would be in the Stewart Co. Book. Houston Co. was already formed by the time this picture would have been made. Thanks, Anne

    2. Oops - I hit the wrong key and my email hit the air before I was finished. At any rate, there was a book at the Homecoming on the History of Houston Co. It included many family histories and personal interviews with former residents. One such feature was of a teacher in Stewart. I didn't see the picture, but during the interview with the teacher, she mentioned my mother, my uncle and one of my aunts in remembering the children in a picture that was shown to her by the interviewer. I am interested in getting a copy of this picture, if possible. Ira introducted me to a gentleman from Houston Co, who is active in the Historical Society there and he seemed to think that he could locate the picture and get me a copy. I believe the picture was made about 1912. Anne

Danville Crossing is where the old Ferry was located, and very near where it operates from today. When you got on the ferry at Danville, and went to the other side, you were 9 miles from Big Sandy and went through Faxon, Then Benton Cut before Big Sandy. Now they have since the Lake a new Place called Bass Bay, then Faxon, Benton Cut then Big Sandy. They moved Danville out back when the lake was formed, but fishing has gotten so good there it is Being rebuilt by people who want a place on the lake, and they are building very fast in the higher ground, a lot where old Danville was. They have a motel, good restaurant, camps, boat docks all with in the old area of Danville. Nice place to be.for good fishing. Ira

    2. Hey All: I was born at Danville, Houston County, Tennessee, Danville is Danville about 2 miles south of Hurricane Creek, and Cane Creek ran on the South Side of old Danville, and White oak Creek is about 1 1/2 miles south of Danville. It started when Dan martin started Genealogy information on Houston, Stewart and Henry County, later joined by Benton, Humphrey and Dickson counties, To join them all together Danville Crossing was started for General Information for all these counties, with specific information being sent to the particular county to which it applied. I hope I have you well confused now. So don't blame me just get on Dave Snow and Dan Martin they are the ones who started it all. Ira

If you remember who I am talking about, could you send me his name and address so that I could remind him to look for a print of the picture. Thanks you so much, Anne

    3. I know there's somebody out there that's an expert on this and it's not me! However, I was under the impression that years ago(like in the 1800's) there was a ferry crossing at Danville in Houston County and if you got on it you ended up across the river in Big Sandy. I thought that ferry site was called the "Danville Crossing" . And just about a mile to the right of "Danville" as the crow flys is "Hurricane Creek" and on that creek somewhere( and I'd just about sell my dog sparky to the hotdog factory to know where) is where the Augustus Henry Milam family lived.Maybe somebody else out there can tell us for sure about that Danville Crossing! Although all the men and women who served time were serving for our country just thankfully a war didn't break out....but this is not a medal it is a certificate...am I right?! Suzanne
