The book has 454 pictures in it, a map of the Old 23rd District., it has 426 pages, it has many tales and funny stories of the people of that area. I have his address if anyone is interested in this book. Carol cmhh@vci.net

    2. Carolyn, I could not find anything on Philadelphia McElroy or Cathey, I found about 5 pages on McElroy's but have not been able to sort it out. She is a mystery, The family says she is a McElroy but I don't have any proof. If I could only find a will or land papers. BTW have you ever heard of a Martin Whitford (a Baptist preacher) from Craven County, NC? let me know. Randy

    1. Edney??
    2. Juanita Cooper Johnson
    3. Noticed two references to Edney today. Have always wondered why my gggrandfather was named Wiley Edney Blount. Know the Wiley was probably for William or Willie Blount, the two governors of TN, but the EDNEY has always been a mystery to me. He was born in Carroll Co, TN in 1826. Does anyone know of a Blount-Edney connection?

    2. Randy, I have a McEroy in my line. Mary Malinda McElroy Cheatam. Her parents were James and Martha McDaniel McElroy and she had married first John J. Cheatam. She then married my gggrandfather Henry E. Wynn. Could there be a connection to your McElroys? I understand about the hours worked. My husband is currently on 6 days 13 hours. I hope there is a connection to our families. Ronda

    2. Randy, You didn't by any chance come onto some new information about Philadelphia McElroy, did you? It is still uncertain if her maiden name was McElroy or Cathey. Carolyn

    3. Hi Folks, Buried at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, in a single grave near her mother, lies: Helen Laverne PIERCE, b.12-12-1912, d. 5-8-1993 Helen's mother was Nora B. McKENZIE, the daughter of Jennette Ellen PIERCE (of the Hiram PIERCE - Kizziah GREER line) and John Malcomb McKENZIE, the son of Mary Caroline PIERCE (of the John PIERCE - Rachel ROSS line) and Malcomb J. McKENZIE. Helen's mother, Nora B. McKENZIE married (Henry) Franklin PIERCE, b.1866, d.1923, who was supposedly the son of a William (Billy) PIERCE. Nora B. was Henry Franklin's second wife, Mary C. Evans was the 1st. One of Franklin & Mary's sons was Ernie Hilman PIERCE who married Madie Lavo (Vodie) MARTIN. William (Billy) and (Henry) Franklin PIERCE were supposedly from Benton Co., but lived near or in the 'Old 23rd" District of Henry Co. Can anyone place William (Billy) & (Henry) Franklin PIERCE in the PIERCE lines?? Also did anyone know or know of Helen Laverne PIERCE and whether she ever married and had children?? Appreciate any help. Thanks, Dave

    2. Bill and Sharon Coleman
    3. Cher, thanks for looking up the HART and STOKES names for me. I'm believing that I have all my Harts in a row so don't believe David and Thomas have much to do with the family. As for SBagley505@aol.com who has the Ross line, I've got Ross blood in me too,. John Ross who lived in Rutherford and/or Blount Co., TN and went to Newton Co., MO in the early 1800s. Am trying to find out who he married. I know their children, all born in TN, were sons Abner M., David Frances, John and Robert. There is also a name unknown ROSS daughter who married a HENRY. Natch, these are the two I descend from! Since John Ross is a very common find, I can also tell you there are several Melvina and Bolivar names used in this ROSS family (also commonly used in the HENRY family). Oh what webs we weave when naming children after someone...but in this case, who! Sharon (Catlin) Coleman billcol@ix.netcom.com

    3. Cher, If you're still doing lookups, please see what you can find on Dickson Co. Edneys. In particular the family of Jesse Lee Edney (1808-1895) and Cynthia Stewart. They had sons William N., Francis A., John B, and Joseph T. but I don't know much more than that. Is there a Dickson Co. Cemetery Book? I think most of these folks are buried there but don't have any dates. We're still enjoying your grape jelly (from the DC Homecoming) Thanks SueB

    3. Forgot......While I'm on the subject.............. Check out: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=139978662 This is one-third of what my London friends are wanting. In explanation...........my mother's family were European circus people who didn't immigrate to the US until 1910. They traveled the world performing and collected books while they worked. From everywhere. My great-grandfather was born in Copenhagen......my grandfather, Stolkhom,...his 5 brothers, my great-uncles, respectively, Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg, London & St. Petersburg. My great-grandfather married his 3rd wife, my great-grandmother in Vienna. They were acrobats who toured the US thru 1920. They played with "Wild Bill Hickock's" Circus and 'hit' every little town in the West. You can find them in the Circus Museum in Baraboo, Wisconsin under the 'Kronemann Brothers'. Got good genes from these guys. I'm 2nd generation immigrant on my mothers side. My fathers folks go back to Plymouth Rock. Should've heard the arguments when my 'immigrant' grandfather gave my 'Pilgrim' grandfather "what fores". Loved it!! Yeah, and I married a Tennessee Scot from Benton Co. whose folks came over in 1774 and fought for the British. Ain't life Great !!!!! And our kids look at us like we're NUTS when Deb & I talk about what makes this country GREAT !!!! GEEZZZZZZZZ....................... Take care, Dave

    1. Civil War Battle Maps
    2. David L. Snow
    3. Folks, I don't normally do this BUT.....if you have any interest at all in the Civil War battles that took place in Tennessee and the deep South, post October 1863 with the Battle of Chattanooga,, take a look at: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=139997356 I donated a similiar 1st Edition Civil War book earlier this year to the new Benton Co. Library <and didn't even receive a "kiss my %#@" in reply>, so this particular volume went on the auction block last night......so someone, who at least appreciates it, can own it. So...........if any of you DC citizens want this book for your own library or to donate to a library other than Benton Co. in the DC area, bid on it and win it !!!! I'll forgive the bid, pay the eBay auction fee, and you can have it for FREE <as long as you don't get out of line>, under the following conditions: 1. The book goes to a Library in the DC area, EXCEPT Benton Co., in your name......or, 2. You keep the book, but send Rootsweb a 'donation' for the amount you bid in the name of the DanvilleCrossing List. Either way, I'm happy ..... Dave
