    3. The walk to my Paper box: Fall is coming early to my area. The stress of the long dry, hot summer has taken its toll and the growing things...seem relieved to have it about over.... In spite of the weather, the trees seem to be trying to paint their beautiful colors... This morning, as I was walking to my box for the Sunday paper I said my usual Good Morning to my neighbors... It is twilight and the trees are alive with activity. I heard a lone squirrel barking as if waiting ... wanting another squirrel somewhere to respond so he will know he is not alone... This spring the yard was full of them... now, I would be pressed to find two. Wonder where they are? The unnamed bugs are chirping, whirring and clicking ... a sure sign that time is short.. got to have a reverie today for there may be no tomorrow. Where is my yard spider...? I am disappointed...This is the second day for it to be gone. Faithfully for about two weeks it has worked and lived in my flower bed near my back door. Like a dependable employee, it has been weaving ~at dusk~ its web to billow in the breeze above the flowers.... and at sunup it proceeds to dismantle its work and retreat to the undergrowth..... only to return at sundown to recreate the web again... very dependable spider! I wonder what happened to my big cream colored spider....? I did enjoy watching it work. My ol kitty is on the wrong side of storm door smacking at a tree frog the size of a nickel... oblivious of my cats interest .. in a distance I hear train nearing a crossing with its warning long wail... The pair of doves are sitting in the Red Bud near the feeder, cooing and waiting for me to put out their breakfast.... They are sooo beautiful.. Did you ever see a dove nest? Pitiful.. No example of engineering...! They could learn a lot from a robin! I expect that my coffee is brewed so I turn to go into the house... Just as I open the door, a big 'ol crow flys over... like a big piece of black paper blowing in the wind. With each flap of its wings...cawing to announce, " The SUN is UP! The SUN IS UP!" The short walk to the mail box is interesting... and the world is alive... Yup, my neighbors are busy this morning... makes me feel good to see them at their work.... Take a minute today and take a look, smell and listen........ it is a wonderful thing. Cher

    3. Gabbie, I do not know how long Pam has been at the library, I only know she is doing all in her power to build up resources for genealogists and has worked extensively with Jim and me, furnishing material for the Stewart website. If you go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnstewar/library.htm and follow the links you can see that she has provided listings of all library holdings of interest to genealogists. They are currently hard at work on getting the money to build a new genealogy room. As for the Historical Society, they were present at the DC reunion and very supportive. They are also working hard presently gathering material for new publications. I have found nothing but positives from both that group and the library in Stewart Co. You may contact either of the two using links from the Stewart website and maybe they can answer your questions more completely. I am sure they would appreciate any help you are willing to give them. jan Listowner: Tnstewar-L@rootsweb.com Tnstewar-D@rootsweb.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Raymon Lindsey <gabbie@aeneas.net> To: <DanvilleCrossing-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 11, 1999 7:24 PM Subject: Re: Stewart Co. 1. HUDSON Query
    2. Can anyone on the list help this lady? Jean S. -------- Subj: HUDSON - Benton and Henry Cty, TN Date: 08/28/1999 1:27:36 AM US Mountain Standard Time From: conralfr@isu.edu (Alfred R. Conroy) Reply-to: conralfr@isu.edu To: Zojea@aol.com Hello Jean, I saw your query on Benton County's page and wondered if you could help me connect my g-g-grandfather Pleas HUDSON born in Henry County, TN to any of the HUDSON'S in Benton County? I am trying to find a HUDSON connection between Benton and Henry County, TN. I realize your post to the Benton Query page regarding this subject was done in 1997, but I hope you can be of assistance. Today I confirmed the name of my g-g-grandfather, Pleas (Pleasant) HUDSON, born in Henry County, TN probably about 1820. This information was on the death certificate I requested from the Tennessee Archives for my g-g-uncle John B. HUDSON (b 1840 TN; d 1916 Obion Co., TN). Unfortunately, the maiden name of John B. HUDSON's mother was listed as "unknown" on the death certificate. However, I believe the wife of Pleas HUDSON was a woman named Mary P. ? who was born in TN in 1821. I found a Mary P. HUDSON in the 1880 Obion County Census. Mary was listed as "mother-in-law" in the household of Thomas M. HAMPTON. Thomas M. HAMPTON was the husband of Pleas and Mary's youngest daughter, Cora HUDSON. Mary's father was born in NC; her mother in Georgia and she was listed as 59 years old at the time of the 1880 Obion Co. Census. Pleas and Mary had six children. It is believed that all these children were born in Obion County, TN; however, the birth date of their son Henry HUDSON who died at Shiloh in April 1862 is unknown. There is a possibility that he was the oldest of the children and may have been born in Henry, Weakley, Benton, Obion or other nearby TN counties. The children of Pleas and Mary P. ? HUDSON are: 1. Henry HUDSON, (b unknown date or place, d April 1862 Shiloh, TN) 2. John B. HUDSON, (b 18 Jan. 1840 TN, d 16 July 1916 Obion Co. TN), m Mary CROCKETT/CROCKETTE, (b 03 April 1844 in ?, d 22 July 1901 Obion Co., TN). Both are buried at Antioch Church Cemetery in Obion Co., TN 3. Benjamin Waller HUDSON, (b 30 Jan. 1844 Union City, Obion Co., TN, d 20 May 1907 Taft, Butler Co., MO). Marriages: 1. 25 Feb. 1869 in Obion Co. TN to Alice M. CALHOUN (b 24 May 1850 Troy, Obion Co., TN, d 29 Nov. 1883 Antioch, near Union City, Obion Co., TN); 2. 14 October 1884 probably in TN to Sarah Penelopee WRAY (b 10 May 1857 unknown place, d 23 Nov. 1893 in Neelyville, Butler Co., MO); 3. April 1895 in Butler Co., MO to Nancy Jane MORROW (b date and place unknown; d date unknown, probably Butler Co., MO); 4. Unknown date probably Butler Co., MO to Laura DODD (b and d date and place unknown). 4. Mary Ann HUDSON (b 29 Jan. 1847 TN; died 28 June 1940 Cape Girardeau, Girardeau Co., MO), m unknown date or place John Martin ALEXANDER (b 25 April 1838 TN, d 12 Nov. 1917 Parma, New Madrid Co., MO). 5. Tennessee Adaline HUDSON (b 18 Feb. 1851 Obion Co. Tn, d 29 May 1939 probably Hornbeak, Obion Co., TN) m unknown date probably Obion County, TN Joseph Salvonus HAYES (b 05 May 1849 Obion Co., TN, d 25 March 1921 probably Hornbeak, Obion Co., TN) 6. Cora HUDSON (b 1857 Obion Co., TN, d unknown date or place) m between Jan. and June 1880 in Obion Co., TN Thomas M. HAMPTON (b between 1851-1854 in TN, d unknown date or place). In the Tennessee Death Index 1908-1912, I found the following HUDSON deaths in Henry County, TN: Mary HUDSON died 1909, Record #43003 R.T. HUDSON died 1909, Record #43459 Robert HUDSON died 1909, Record #43035 Benton County Death Records: James K. Polk HUDSON 1912, Record #1857 Jerome H. HUDSON 1911, Record #1979 Do you have access to the actual records in this death index? Do you have census, birth or marriage records that might tie my g-g-grandfather Pleas HUDSON to anyone in Benton County? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Just turn em inside out and wear em again." "Uh Uh. Call UPS Brother cause this girls stopped making deliveries." "Don't throw that flour sack away, I'll cut a couple holes in it and make you a gown sweetie." You see, I love my creature comforts. I can't live without my Microwave popcorn and my 1 hour photos. If I had lived back then there would be no ancestors to search for, because, while I love my children, I don't do baby having very well. I get very sick, ya know. And pain and I don't see eye to eye. No epidural - no babies. Well I'm going downstairs now and sort through all the research I did in Paris this weekend. what I got home with anyway. I went to the library and wrote down 5 pages of stuff. The girl came in and told me she was closing up and could i please pay for the copies I made. Well, I walked around the corner to pay her and left my notebook laying on the table. My step mother is mailing it to me today. Happy Un-labor day. Marsha

    1. Re: Labor day rockin'
    2. Happy no-labor day to you too, Jan! I agree, we never had it so good! I also think that the American family suffers from too much teechnology and too much time on tehir hands... especially teh young generation. I believe in assigned chores just because you live here and are a part of a family, and that is how a family works. Reminds me of a Dennis the Menace cartoon when Joey was bragging to Dennis about his alowance..said " I am good for a quareter-a-week", and Dennis replied " I am good for nothin':" ;-) The kids up the family tree were good because it was expected of them, as was helping with whatever shores needed doing and learning to pull their own weight in the family.. wish there were more of that!
