Please pardon if you receive repeat posts on this, But it may be worth your time to read it a couple of times <G> While surfing I came across the NEW Tennessee Bio's page which just opened Sept 1. There are only a few bio's at this time AND many of the counties in this region are STILL up for adoption. Please check it out. The main page is: http://www.hickmanonline.com/tnbio/ The County selection list is on http://www.hickmanonline.com/tnbio/countysel.htm Also, if you have a bio you would like to submit, please click on the county in which it belongs and at the bottom of the page, there is place to submit. Hope this helps someone! Julie Gibbs

For those of you who requested a copy of Grandma Thompson's Chow-Chow recipe (sweet green tomato relish), her you have it: ½ gal. Chopped cabbage (about two and one-half) ½ gal. Chopped green tomatoes (about 24) ½ gal. Chopped apples (about 24) 1 pint chopped onions (about three large) 4 green sweet peppers 4 red sweet peppers ½ tsp cloves 1 tbsp. White mustard seeds 1 tbsp. Black pepper 1 tbsp. Beaten ginger 1 tbsp. Cinnamon 2 tbsp salt 3 lbs. White sugar 2 pints white vinegar Mix well together and cook til tender. Be careful to use apples that do not cook up easily (Jonathans do well). Put in sterilized jars and seal. Yield: 24 pints.
I have been trying for more than two years to find information on my gggggrandfather William P Hampton born Aug 8 1789 in a part of North Carolina that became Tennessee in 1796. I just received information from a cousin who is researching the same line that she has found some evidence that William's name was William Powell Hampton. This is the first hint any of us have had as to what his middle name was and hopefully will help us find the line of Hamptons that William belongs to. William was married to Malinda(maiden name unknown) born about 1792 in Virginia. William and Malinda had seven known children, John H born 1818 TN, James P born 1827 TN, William Erwin, Lemira, Mary Adeline, Mathilda, and Elizabeth. William left Tennessee around 1827 and went to McLean Co ILL. Around 1835 William went to Dade Co Missouri where he died in 1855. If anyone has any clues as to who William's parents were , what line of Hamptons he is connected to , and where in Tennessee he lived I would be very grateful for the help. Thanks for your time Jaime JLeeV196@aol.com
Marsha, Thanks for the advice. I was needing to find court records showing the provisions set aside for widows. I didn't see that listed on the library records. I am looking for a pre 1840's record. Do you think the library has this? Lillie
Does anyone know what time the court house in Henry Co. and Benton Co opens? I have found addresses, but no times of operation. Thanks, Lillie
Lillie: Wills 1822-1965 Circuit Court Minutes May 1834 - July 1968 Court Minutes Mar 1824 - June 1968 Deed 1820-1963 Tax List 18277 - 1967 These are the only pre 1840 I could find on the list. I am not sure where the provisions would be recorded. The court house probably opens at 9am. Lillie, In Henry County you would be better off to go to the library and find your data and then go to the courthouse for copies. I think the library is on the far end of Washington Street just past the railroad tracks. If you get to the funeral home, you went too far. Hi folks, If you are descended from RICHARD BRADFORD who settled in Charles City Co., VA circa 1653 and married FRANCES TAYLOR you will want to visit this site: http://members.home.net/kylawyer/ It has the entire text of David Bradford' s book (now out of print)published 1993 detailing (some of) the descendants of Richard Bradford. The STONE descendants from William Stone SR and Elizabeth Hardeman of Dickson County ascend to Richard Bradford through the Hardeman line. Walker K. McCulloch

Cher, Even though we are miles apart, you made me feel as if I was right there beside you seeing all that you saw. As I drove to work I noticed more things that I usually do thanks to your "eye" opener. A deer ran out to greet me on its journey to the mountain and as the leaves here start to turn I noticed that there are trully many colors in this vast region I live in. I once told a cousin who came to visit from Tennessee that "this" was gods country but until you made me open my eyes I didn't know how true it was. Thank you for this great lesson. Toni
Hello, List! This is off the topic but thought you might enjoy it.....consider it an early Veteran's Day salute! Have a great day! Linda H. > <A HREF="http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/ceharger/honorflag.htm">Click here: >Honoring the American Flag</A>
Linda, What a grate story. We owe so much to our Veteran's and on this Veteran's day let us salute them all. My father was a Veteran and I will not forget to place a flag on his final resting place to let every one know how proud I am of him. Janet
