    3. Hi Jean, I saw your post about Dennis Bell and Sarah A. Bell. Have you asked Ira Bell ? He might have some ideas. I would wonder if they are connected to George Bell. I am interested in this Bell family of Benton Co, Tn, also. Write when you can. 2. OK. Here's another BELL I need connections for. I have a Dennis BELL married 5 Feb 1855 Benton Co, TN to Nancy BEASLEY. Nancy was a daughter of Reuben S. Beasley (ca 1807 KY - Mar 1862 Benton Co, TN) and Elizabeth or Elizabelle BROWN (abt 1807 NC - FEb 1880 Benton Co, TN). She is listed as Elizabeth in the census records but Elizabelle on death certificate of their daughter Cora Cordelia Beasley. Anyone know anything about Dennis BELL??? Jean S.

    2. Toni: I know those dates don't add up for Sarah A. - but that's what is there. Debbie sent me a definite birth date for her - 24 Aug 1856 TN - and a definite death date - 4 Nov 1912 Gainesville, Cooke Co, TX. If the Sarah A. in the 1850 census wasn't her, who was the Sarah A. living with Mary C. and her husband J. G. HUDSON? Maybe someone misread the census as age 14 instead of 4 or the census taker put down the wrong date, or - jeeps, I don't know! That's just the info I have for these BELLS. Very confusing! After the Civil War, they lived in Henderson County, TN, which was William's birthplace, and later, in the 1890's, they moved to Henry County, TN and moved west to Oklahoma during the Land Rush. We don't know who her parents were, but we have an old photograph of Catherine and William. She had long dark braids, and it appears that she was either Indian, or part Indian. There were Grays from Tippah County who were Chicasaw Indians who owned a mill and inn. I can't prove any connection, but it is an intriguing possibility. 1. [DC] BELL Family of Benton County
    2. Can any of you BELL researchers help me with this quandary? Some time ago I corresponded with a cousin in TX. She told me she had letters which indicated a Sarah A. BELL (1856TN - 1912 Cooke Co, TX) who married James Thomas BEASLEY in Benton County in 1878, had a sister Mary C. Bell who married 1866 Benton County to James Gwin HUDSON. Mary and James HUDSON also went to TX about the same time that Sarah and James BEASLEY did. Mary and Sarah BELL had a brother, John W. BELL, who married Mary / Mildred Ellen WEATHERLY in Benton County in 1879. (Just learned this information, thanks to Brenda Griffith on the BC list). Now for the question - who were the parents of these children, Sarah A, Mary C, and John W. BELL? In the 1850 BC Census they were all listed in the 5th District in the home of J. G. HUDSON, Jr. M.C. (Mary - his wife) was 23, S. A. (Sarah) 14, and J.W (John) was 10. Other than the 1850 census info, the only other thing I have on them in TN is the 1880 BC Census, where John W BELL, and Mary Elen were in District #9, house #215. I think Mary and Sarah had gone to TX by then. My cousin in TX indicated the family thought the above BELL children were orphans by 1850. Can anyone fill me in on this family? Did Benton County have orphan court records that could be searched? Thanks in advance for your help. Jean S.

    3. Hello List...I've been away for several months, during which I moved from Illinois to Nebraska. It took a while to settle in, but I'm back to doing family research, with a new computer and renewed enthusiasm. About a month ago, after years of looking for traces of my West Tennessee ancestors, by mail, on-line, and in person, I discovered that I had neglected to pay attention to some important clues...phone books! Two cousins, seperated from my branch of the family by three generations and 70-some years, discovered me. Imagine my surprise upon larning that they lived in the Danville Crossing area, in Waverly and New Johnsonville. I have passed that way several times in my research, but had my eyes focused on graveyards, courthouses and libraries, and missed my real-life kin. We have swapped stories, photographs, etc., and sarted to bridge the gaps in our history. From now on, I will watch for the trees in the forest, and try not to trip over my own roots.
