I'm looking for Katherine BELL Abbott who was the daughter of Herbert Taylor Abbott and Margaret Ann BELL. She was b. 8 July 1850 in KY. I have run across another name, William I. BELL married to Anna Eliza Moseley that could be associated with Katherine. It's a long shot, but since there has been so much talk of Bells, thought I would give it a try. Thanks, Beverly
Just remindering everyone that I am having a hard time locating a marraige for Jeremiah Van buren Mitchelll and a Mary......Was told that Marys last name was Jarrett... but I don't see Jarrets anywhere near here....also told that her name might be Mary Hale???/ this couple should have been married just after 1860 as far as I can deduct..unless it was the other direction and they married about 1850' to sixty and something happened to Mary and Jeremiah never appeared on a ceusus with her......but Jeremiah was said to have son named Hale... who we have never located either.so possibly he was being raised by other family members? Possibley his mother died early or in childbirth... Any help will be so appreciated... have searched for years for this info on granfathers brother. after he appeared in Dickson in 1850 and 1860.. then not seen again...... Lenora

Ask them if you can form a cemetery committee (even if you are the only one on it at first!) to keep the cemetery up. How many graves in the cemetery? Do you know any of the decscendants of the other people buried there? Many folks these days are interested in preserving what they can of the old times, and you might be pleasantly surprised. Perhaps the land owners put something in their deeds about keeping the cemetery. If not, you could always explain that you have ties to their land, and would they mind if you came every so often to weed, trim, fix headstones, etc. I have heard of people organizing "Adopt a Cemetery" drives in their community, and even if folks don't have an ancestor buried there, it makes a good community service project. Boy Scouts are great for helpers, as they can do the yard work and also document the graves. Would make a great badge project. Don't, whatever you do, give up! Keep on asking, stay polite and positive, and don't give up! Let everyone know that this is important to you, and you will succeed. Hope that helps, Juliane Gale Bertagne

Ira: Yes, Sir. I did get your earlier e-mail, and a great big hug for you for giving us that information. Our son has been working on my computer the last few days so I haven't had much time on it - been remiss on getting some 'thank-yous' out because of it. Wasn't allowed to even touch it for a couple days until he got the parts he needed. TipWorld - http://www.tipworld.com The Internet's #1 Source for Computer Tips, News, and Gossip Proudly presents: Genealogy And now for today's tip... NATURALIZATION RECORDS FOR WOMEN If you're searching for a naturalization record for a female ancestor, you may be out of luck. In the past, naturalization laws for women were very different from those for men because women did not have the right to vote, and as such, had no "reason" to have citizenship. A woman's rights came through marriage or through inheritance from a male relative. An 1804 law said that if a man died before final citizenship papers were granted, his wife and children were automatically given citizenship. An 1855 law stated that any female alien who married a U.S. citizen automatically became a citizen. If a woman was not married, she had to wait until she was 21 before filing for citizenship. If a husband and wife became citizens at the same time, the wife's name was not included on her husband's paperwork. --by Diana J. One of the mostly silent ones here...I don't know the circumstances, but I have seen over the years that there are always folks who want to talk behind others' backs and tear people down for something or other. We are the ones who appreciate you, and nothing being said will change our minds. You are a great List Mom! Hang in there, and rise above it. I loved what Cora (Cora Unashamed on PBS last Sunday night) told her little charge, Jessie, about listening to all the nasty things the little girl's own mother was saying: "Just look up at the clouds, Jessie...Float up way above those words...They can't hurt you way up high..." (or words to that effect). Sail on, Cher! We love you. Juliane Gale Bertagne
Thank you so much for that information on Pellagra! I was quite amused with that old 1923 medical book who thought it was a disease carried by Italians. They were almost on track when they thought it was from corn....but they thought it was bad corn. They said to smell the corn for mold as one of the preventive steps. On my great grandfathers death certificate...they say he was sick with it for twelve months. I wonder if he was home that whole time or if he was sent somewhere. That would of been on the death cert though wouldn't it? Here is an update on who I'm searching in Stewert County.........Coppedge, Brewer, Scarborough, Gafford .....I had one aunt who married into the Atkins family and I know there were a scarborough line that married into Atkins as well...my great aunt Grace married a McCord to and apparently had a wonderful romantic marriage to him. Hi Suzanne, My father's first wife was Katie Cherry b 1-30-1882, daughter of Albert Gallatin Cherry b 9-25-1854 son of Albert Gleaves Cherry b 7-16-1809 seems to be a cousin of yours. I only have your name, your fathers, your grandfather, your great grandfather. Would appreciate it if you could fill in some blanks for me. Will be glad to give you some information on Katie's descendants; she had 5 boys, my half brothers. B.J. Toni: Here is what I currently have on Reuben & his family - if you would like further generations just holler, ok? Jean S. ----------------------- 1. Reuben S. Beasley (b.1807-Kentucky d.1862-Benton Co.,Tennessee) sp: Elizabeth or Elizabelle Brown (b.1807-North Carolina,or,South Carolina m.1829 d.1880-Benton Co.,Tennessee). -2. Martha Beasley (b.1830-Humphreys Co.,Tennessee). + Mitchell Tankersley (b.1831-of Humphreys Co.,Tennessee). -2. Mary L. Beasley (b.1832-of Benton Co.,Tennessee). -2. Andrew B.Or A. Beasley (b.1835-Benton Co.,Tennessee d.1915-Benton Co.,Tennessee). + Rhoda Caroline Thompson (b.1831-Benton Co.,Tennessee m.1855 d.1915-Benton Co.,Tennessee). -2. Nancy Beasley (b.1839-Benton Co.,Tennessee). + Dennis Bell (b.1835-of Benton Co,Tennessee m.1855). -2. [NOTE: This marriage doubtful - does not fit with births of Louisa & Felix's childen). -2. Isabella Beasley (b.1844-Benton Co.,Tennessee d.1906-Benton Co.,Tennessee) + Andrew Hautie M. Baker (b.1837-North Carolina d.Tennessee). -2. Elmira or Elnora/Lamira Seraphine Beasley (b.1846-Benton Co.,Tennessee d.1931-Benton Co.,Tennessee). Yes, I believe there were two Mary's - Mary L. of 1832 & Mary Ann of 1849. Maybe the first one died prior to 1849 - have nothing more on her but her birth. In a message dated 10/28/00 12:49:16 PM Central Standard Time, [email protected] writes: << Thanks for the information on Dennis BELL. Nice to know who his parents were. Do you have any dates on him? All I have is the marriage date for he and Nancy. Have nothing on them from that time. Do you happen to have anything on the Sarah A. BELL & her siblings, Mary C. and John W. BELL? No Jean I do not have a Sarah A, Bell except the daughter of William Bell and she would have been born about 1745 in Isle of Wight VA I can give you additional information on Sarah's descendants, but don't know much about Mary C. & John W., except that Mary married John Gwin HUDSON 23 Jan1866 in Benton County, and John W. BELL married Mildred E. WEATHERLY 21 Sep 1879 in Benton County. What was their connection to US? They were supposedly orphans... But even orphans had parents at some time... any ideas? Thanks for the offer of information on the Bell family further back - I don't think I need that. I would like Dennis' siblings, though, if it isn't too much trouble. Sorry I do not have them. I have other BEASLEYS who married BELLS - Georgie Lee - a first cousin once removed, married Arzo M. BELL, and Georgie's brother Harrison Dewey "Dude" Beasley md a BELL also - don't have her given name. My Sister married a Beasley, son of John D. Beasley born in Stewart County Son of John Levi Beasley. See my earlier E-mail I know there must be a hug >> Ira
