    1. [DANIEL-L] The CUNNINGHAMS of Cub Creek, PA
    2. John R. Clarke
    3. Good Morning, Since we have been bouncing back and forth between various DANIEL bunches from Virginia and Eastern NC, I thought I would throw this out on the table for discussion... Last evening I spent a considerable amount of time going through List Member, Karen COTTER's, description of the CUNNINHAMS of Cub Creek, PA. Some of her information was very familiar, some of it corrected some information I already had on this family and some of it really confused me. I cannot tell you -- this information was Greek to me or that some of it did not tie into my overall bunch, it did. However, some of it seemed to tie to families that made no sense to me, whatsoever. Take for instance the Peter COFFEE family. We know some of the children of Peter COFFEE married into the family of Thomas DANIEL and Sarah BURNEY. We also know where the BURNEYS were from (Craven County, NC) and what DANIEL family they seem to connect to -- the T&E bunch. So, what was Karen doing with Peter COFFEE amongst her Cub Creek, PA CUNNINGHAM bunch. This made no sense to me. However, the profile of her CUNNINGHAM bunch matches, perfectly, with the children of Charles DANIEL (1773-1803) and Elizabeth COFFEE. This begs the questions -- if she married Charles DANIEL, was he really a son of Thomas DANIEL and Sarah BURNEY? I have no compunctions about making Charles's father, Thomas DANIEL, a Virginia DANIEL but Thomas is not even a name in that bunch nor was he even mentioned in her material. She had all of the DANIEL boys who married into her CUNNINGHAM bunch in Greene County, GA, as well as their parents, James DANIEL and Jean KELSO, but little, if anything, about this COFFEE connection. As most know, they say that James DANIEL was a son of John DANIEL III and Ann BATES of York County, VA but I get the feeling this is all wrong. I also checked to see if Payne had anything new on this Kelso-Daniel bunch and his information was so new, he did not even have them listed anywhere on his website, that I could find. <grin> I think he used to have them linked to the Middlesex DANIEL bunch, the last time I checked. I also noted her link to the COLBERTS, a name close to my bunch. She even has ties between her bunch and the WINGFIELDS and I know where that bunch was from - New Kent County, VA. However, the BURNEYS and the WINGFIELDS were also close. She even has the CARLTONS in this bunch but the Morgan County, GA CARLTON family was from Duplin County, NC but before that, they were from PA -- Chester County, PA. I just do not know about her material as to whether this information is accurate or she is confusing persons of the same name with those of an identical name but were from somewhere else. We know where the Simon BURNEYS were from -- Carven County, NC. However, the COFFEES would have probably run across the CUNNINGAMS since they both lived in PE County, VA at one point. The one thing I know about this total bunch, it smells of "Irish green" all over the place, including the COFFEES. I just do not know about some of her information nor some of the conflicts I see in some of it. The one thing I feel is -- if these DANIEL boys married that heavily into her CUNNINGHAM family in Greene County, GA then you can bet their parents, James DANIEL and Jean KELSO, probably followed them all the way from Ireland or James had parents who were from the same area in Ireland. In fact, her Samuel CUNNINGHAM married Jean KELSO after his wife died and her husband died. That, to me, is a very close family. The one thing that really caught my eye was the James CUNNINGHAM who Karen says was an early merchant in Madison, Morgan County, GA, a profession my RICHTER bunch was also in during a slightly later time frame, also in Madison. I also know this Jimmy CUNNINGHAM was also listed with Henry CARLTON in a horse racing endeavor in Madison in 1809 and the CARLTONS were also listed as being with her Cub Creek CUNNINGHAM bunch. Henry CARLTON's daughter, Lucy, also married a James Harris PONDER, Sr. (1786-1864) and he was the GGF of Lucille PONDER (1895-1973) who married my father, as his first wife. Henry's brother, John K. CARLTON married an ALDERMAN and they moved to Thomasville, Thomas County, GA. Their grand daughter, Edna Sophronia CHASTAIN, married Russell R. RENEAU (1832-1862) in 1855 in Thomasville and his sister, Mary Jane RENEAU, my GGM, married my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL in 1852 in Jefferson County, GA and their daughter, Alice E. DANIEL (1854-1924) married my grandfather, John C. RICHTER, Sr. in 1872 in Madison, GA. A Round-Robin, I do not know.... What I do know is there is not a Robert or Thomas DANIEL anywhere in sight in this Cunningham-Daniel bunch of Greene County, GA, although they match most of these DANIELS, financially, to a tee. I also do not know whether this may be a DANIEL cross-line or not. What I do know is -- a lot of collateral links she carries do not make sense to me -or- they make what I have, not make sense. I do not know which is correct. You can bet I will take a much closer look at her information. If anyone wants a copy of her information drop me a private note and I will send you a MS Word Document which contains her Cunningham information. Make sure you have MS Word on your computer because you can not view it, otherwise........... John R. Clarke Thomasville, GA
