Joni, I do not know where these HUDSON were from but my bet is somewhere in the Pitt County, NC area, where Rhoda DANIEL (1755-1792) was from. We know from Pitt County, NC as well as Screven County, GA deeds that Rhoda was married to a Robert HUDSON. I have also never seen any definitive proof that Rhoda DANIEL was ever married to a Nathaniel HUDSON. When she died she was the widow of Robert HUDSON, Jr., according to my notes, and her 1792 will so states she was the relict (widow) of Robert HUDSON and there is no mention of a Nathaniel HUDSON nor is he a witness to this will, which makes me discount any marriage of Rhoda DANIEL to a Nathaniel HUDSON. There may well have been a Rhoda DANIEL who married a Nathaniel DANIEL but I do not think he was out of this bunch lined to this Pitt County, NC bunch. The HUDSON family often mention as the parents of Capt. Nathaniel HUDSON were William HUDSON and Frances GREENE of PE County, VA which seems to fit in with your Elbert County, GA information. << 1792 Will of Rhoda Daniel HUDSON, Effingham County, GA: Rhoda Hudson, relict of Robert HUDSON, Jr. To my four children got by Robert HUDSON, Jr. My husband deceased, viz., Samuel HUDSON, Robert HUDSON, Mary HUDSON and Maxfield HUDSON. John, A will for Rhoda Daniel Hudson has never been found. It is said she died in Elbert Co.Ga. in 1802. It was a deed of gift, Effingham Co.Ga.,1 July 1792, not her will. Rhoda Hudson (widow of Robert Hudson, June, dec'd.) Deed of Gift, 1 July 1792. to their children. 1. Samuel 2.Robert 3.Mary 4. Maxfield Wit: William Colson, Enoch and Sarah Daniel Robert Hudson had died in June of 1792, not Rhoda. Rhoda M1: Nathaniel Hudson and had son, Hamilton,b:1782 This is proven by a Deed of Gift, dated 14 Sept 1782. William Daniel, brother of Rhoda, deeds to Hamilton Hudson, son of Rhoda and Nathaniel Hudson. Judy ----- Original Message ----- From: "John R. Judy, I do not know what gift you are referring to but the only deed in which there is a gift, that I know of, was not one in filed in Effingham County, GA but one filed in filed in Pitt County, NC in 1782. <<< Deed Book A pg 29 (148) 14 September 1782, Pitt Co, NC, recorded 17 November 1798 RLD to Samuel Hudson, g/son (son of his dau Roda, wife of Robert Hudson of GA) one mulatto girl, age 5, named Charita. Wit: George Daniel, John Wilkins, William Wilson, Jr. >>> I have to rely on the research of others and the will of Rhoda DANIEL is as listed in my previous message seems to be accurate, according to this research. The source for this will is listed and someone the DANIEL listed provided this will from the Georgia archives, as I remember. As for links between families of Elbert County, GA and those of Effingham County, GA -- this is not a strong link, as I have seen. Most Elbert County, GA families were VA families and most Effingham County, GA families, with a few exceptions, were NC families. Since we know Rhoda was from NC, this seems to make sense. As for the 1782 gift from Capt. Robert Lanier DANIEL of Pactolus, Pitt County, NC to his daughter, Rhoda DANIEL, then Mrs. Robert HUDSON of GA, this agrees perfectly with the probate of her will in 1792 in Effingham County, GA and this will was dated 1791. If someone has cobbled all of this up, it sure looks convincing to me. I will tell you, I know there are quite a few errors in some of the Effingham County, GA information. One of which I am personally aware of is the purported marriage of Sarah DIXON to Josiah DANIEL on 23 Apr 1772. She was Sarah MAY, who married Samuel TISON, Sr. and after he died, Josiah DANIEL. She had a son, Samuel TISON, Jr. who married Elizabeth STAFFORD, d/o Samuel STAFFORD and Dorcas WILLIAMS. There is one HUDSON marriage from these records that if I were you, I would take a close look at but I would not trust this transcription, one bit. I would look at the name, HARRISON, if I were you. However, this marriage is reported as: Hudson, Christopher marr Heersseen, Hannah 03/06/1798 This is one of the problems we face when people transcribe records and have no idea the names of families who lived in that area. <<< 1792 Will of Rhoda Daniel HUDSON, Effingham County, GA: Rhoda Hudson, relict of Robert HUDSON, Jr. To my four children got by Robert HUDSON, Jr. My husband deceased, viz., Samuel HUDSON, Robert HUDSON, Mary HUDSON and Maxfield HUDSON.
