Keeping Marriages In The Family ~ The 3rd spouse of Richard ASBURY, Mrs. Sarah WATTS, mentioned earlier... She was Sarah SHERRILL, b: 1786, Wilkes County, GA ~ Daughter of David WATTS. Her 1st husband had been Archibald WATTS, d: JUL 1818, Greene County, GA whom she married 16 DEC 1799, Green County, GA ~ Son of Thomas WATTS and Sarah EARLY. Child of Sarah SHERRILL and Archibald WATTS: Anne Elizabeth WATTS, bc: 1808 ~ married 17 APR 1824, to CORDIAL DANIEL ~ Son of HENNING DANIEL and HANNAH ASBURY. So, John, I must agree with you regarding family associations and their marriages down through the years... up to a 100 years at least, and maybe even near 200. Think about the time I came along, my grams, b: 1869, had had enough... wouldn't even let me play with my male cousins. Anne
Anne, I must have missed this post. If she was Sarah SHERRILL wife of Archibald WATTS, how could she be a daughter of David WATTS? The rest of it makes sense. Was she Sarah SHERRILL, d/o David SHERRILL? That would make more sense. <grin> Since I must have missed this post, drop me a personal note on this bunch, if you would..... I like Wilkes County, GA because it and Oglethorpe County were big VA counties whose descendants later fed into Greene County, as well as my favorite Georgia county, Morgan. I also have lots of links to Oglethorpe and Greene County, GA, which means they also had lots of links into Wilkes. Has anyone ever read the history of Washington, GA? In short, during the RW Stephen HEARD, whose family is all over my Morgan County, GA bunch, was the "de facto" CEO of the State of Georgia after the Georgians were forced to abandon Louisville due to the British capture the City of Augusta and for a short period Stephen HEARD basically ran the government of the State of GA out of Washington, Wilkes County, GA. I think this history also says there something like 58,000 people in Washington County, GA, making it one of the most populous counties in the state and they were all, mostly, of VA origins. John R.
