Ruth, A KEY family lived on the Stagecoach Road from Charleston as it passed through Morgan County, GA on its way to New Orleans. This ferry was located just a little ways down the road from Wilson LUMPKIN's home. This KEY family operated a ferry and I think this was the crossing of the Apalachee RIVER from then Greene County, GA into Morgan, at Buckhead. The FITZPATRICKS established a foothold, early, in Buckhead, which is located about 8 or so miles southeast of Madison, the county seat of Morgan County, GA. The PARKS also operated another ferry down in that area, too, down in the Brownwood area -- southwest of Madison at about the same distance. Wilson LUMPKIN (1783-1870), two term Governor of GA, married Elizabeth WALKER, d/o Rev. Sanders WALKER and Sarah LAMAR, the d/o of Thomas LAMAR III and Eleanor YOUNG who lived in Beech Island, SC -- outskirts of Augusta. My first-cousin, once removed, Col. William Richter MUSTIN, Esq. (1857-1900) of Madison, married Junie Whatley WRIGHT (1866-1900) of Beech Island, SC in 1894 at the home of her father, John Miller WRIGHT of Beech Island, SC. John was the son of Dionysius Z. WRIGHT, notice the name, Dionysius, and Sabrina A. BUSH of Barnwell County, SC and he was a grandson of Oakley H. WRIGHT and Nancy BAKER of New Castle, DE, later Windsor, Henry County, Missouri. Sabrina was the d/o George O. BUSH and Ellander SAPP of Williston, Barnwell County, SC. The BUSH's and MILLERS, mostly of the Edgefield area, go all the way back to Bertie County, NC. The parents of Virginia C. WHATLEY, Junie's mother, was Col. Abner WHATLEY and Eliza Ruth WILLSON of Edgefield, SC. They go back to the WHATLEYS of Granville County, NC. The LUMPKINS came to GA from the Halifax County, VA area. The parents of this family were a John H. LUMPKIN and Lucy HOPSON. They migrated into the Oglethorpe County, GA area and spread out from there. This family contained a lot of attorney, judges, etc and were contemporaries of Gov. John CLARKE, and Gen. Hold on John - you're goin' so fast. I have Thomas NEWMAN of Barnwell Dist SC who married Elizabeth BUSH. Their son Thomas married into my Davis line in Monroe Co., AL. I've found Indian Terr. Passports for Thomas and his family. Now, I've been looking at that WALKER/LAMAR marriage as being the possible parents of Tandy WALKER, a hero/Indian Fighter of the War of 1812 in AL. I can't quite get it together - but, I'm pretty sure that's the connection. My KEYS (descents of John KEY & Martha TANDY) & my HARRISON's (descendents of Benj.
