Ruth, Robert DANIELL, an O'DANIEL descendant, and I uncovered some interesting connections the other day, involving the FITZPATRICKS. Someone mentioned a MAYFIELD link and I looked at my data and found where a Sudie MAYFIELD married a BYROM but that is where it gets interesting. Sudie MAYFIELD married an Henry Crawford BYROM. Henry was the son of William Hardwick C. BYROM and Juliana Harvey FITE of Gordon County, GA. William was the son of John Smith Davenport BYRON and Nancy FITZPATRICK of West Columbia, Brazoria County, Texas. Nancy was the daughter of Rene FITZPATRICK RS-VA (ABT 1739-1839) and Mary "Mollie: HARDWICK of Greensboro, Greene County, GA. Rene was the younger brother of my Capt. Benjamin FITZPATRICK RS-VA (1745-1821) who married a PERKINS and a JONES and settled also in Greene and later Morgan County, GA. Notice, also, the PERKINS connection and the link to the CRAWFORD family - a Tabitha PERKINS is sitting right next to my Robert C. DANIEL in Burke in 1820 and William Bibb CRAWFORD performed the marriage ceremony for my grand uncle, William Russell DANIEL in 1879 in Madison, GA. I do feel the CRAWFORD family of Morgan County, GA is at least, close to my bunch, maybe even collateral in some way. We also know that Capt. Allen DANIEL of Elbert County, GA also married a PERKINS. You mention the MAXWELLS and I am sure old Audley MAXWELL (1766-1840) of Liberty County, GA is probably a part of this family. He married a STEVENS and remember who they say that John DANIEL, son of Capt. Aaron and Betsy, married -- a Rebecca STEVENS. Audley MAXWELL matches the profile of John DANIEL and since one of his daughters married Roswell KING whose family was the family of Roswell, GA (named for him) then you got to say this bunch was rather affluent. Remember, the mother of Theodore ROOSEVELT, Martha BULLOCH, was born and raised in Roswell and the KINGS and the BULLOCHS were close, real close. So, this bunch, was not what they call, 'po." Just up the road from Roswell, where all the rich Yankees and sports figures in Atlanta now live, is Canton, Cherokee County, GA the home of the JONES -- the Bobby JONES family who were in the cotton mill business, as were the KINGS and BULLOCHS in Roswell. In fact, one of the widows of one of my RICHTER cousins, Richter SMITH of Griffin, GA, was the niece of Bobby. Don't forget the CALLOWAYS in all of this and their links to both the CASONS and CANNONS and a CALLOWAY married into the FITZPATRICK family and their son, Henry Harris FITZPATRICK (1863-1934) married my aunt, Ida Reneau RICHTER (1879-1968). And my grandmother married a Dr. Robert JONES from Monroe, GA in 1914 in Atlanta, after the death of my grandfather. I cannot find out much about this Dr. JONES and what I have found out is not worth listing here but, needless to say, the family was most upset about this marriage but I will bet he is out of this same JONES family. As for the THOMPSONS you list, I would take a close look at Capt. Reuben THOMPSON RS-GA (1765-1855) and his wife, Rachel CHAMBERS, both of Emanuel County, GA. Reuben, Jr. married a Martha DANIEL. Rev. Robert T. THOMPSON married a BEASLEY, d/o a ROBINETTE, and another married a GRIMES, s/o a Francis GRIMES. The key link in this THOMPSON family was their oldest daughter, Sarah, who married Rev. Jordan FLANDERS (1793-1878) as his first wife. His second wife was a DANIEL. Several of the things I know about Capt. Reuben THOMPSON is that he was born in Bertie County, NC and his wife, Rachel CHAMBERS, in MD. Capt. THOMPSON also served as Clerk of the Inferior Court of Emanuel County, GA from 1821-1833 and we know that Lucy GRAY's ancestor, Eligah H. CALLOWAY, also of Emanuel, was in this position at an earlier time and Rev. Jordan FLANDERS, at a later time. I have always wondered if this Reuben THOMPSON was related to William Tappen THOMPSON, the first editor of what became the "Madisonian" newspaper in Madison, GA. I know he left Madison about 1850 and moved to Savannah were he ran a newspaper down there. They have a statue of him in Savannah in one of their squares but I cannot find any listed genealogy for him, anywhere. I also have a good database on the family of Christopher CLARK, Sr. and Millicent TERRELL if you want it. I know the TERRELLS were Quakers but did you know his grandmother was a BOLLING? Now, get this, after you read the following DAR application, which appears to be accurate. Nancy HARDWICK, sister of Mollie HARDWICK who married Rene FITZPATRICK, married a TAYLOR, a DANIEL and a BARROW. The DANIEL marriage in 1777 is the one of importance since he was James DANIELL (O'DANIEL) of Fairfield County, SC, later Hancock County, GA. See a copy of Robert's private message to me of the other day (below). I also wonder if this James BARROW who married Nancy HARDWICK in 1802, then the widow of James DANIELL, was related to the James BARROW who married Nancy ANDREWS (b. ABT 1735). This Nancy was the d/o Warren ANDREWS and Sarah of Pitt County, NC and she was a sister of Lt. Edmund ANDREWS (1725-1796), whose daughter, Prisa ANDREWS, married William DANIEL, Sr. son of Capt Robert Lanier DANIEL of Pitt. Edmund married Agnes WALLACE, d/o William WALLACE and Martha ANDREWS, who was probably a sister of Warren ANDREWS. Georgia Methodist Bishops Lovick, Reddick and George Foster PIERCE come right out of this ANDREWS line. I am sure there more than a few "heathen" Baptists in the bunch <grin> but what does it really show us? It shows us they were all of equal station, as the say. Take for an example the MELLS we have floating around some of this bunch. My 2nd GGF, Rev. Russell RENEAU was taken to task by a MELL in 1850 because of Russell's views on predestination. MELL was then head of the Georgia Baptist Convention. I have cousins that graduated from Mercer and others that graduated from Penfield, the predecessor of Mercer, and old Jesse's daughter married a CLARKE. She died and Rev. Jesse being the Christian man he was never forgave her husband for eloping with her against his wishes. In fact, Jesse led a campaign to run this former Georgia Governor right out of GA, which he did. John CLARKE, Esq. later married a WILLIAMSON. d/o Col. Micajah WILLIAMSON of Wilkes County, GA and he is now buried in Marietta, GA with his father, Gen. Elijah CLARKE. <<< The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Volume 103 page 263 Mrs. Birdie Varner Sanders. DAR ID Number: 102853 Born in Butts County, Ga. Wife of Bennett C. Also No. 77346. >>> Robert's message to me: <<< Yes, John, These HARDWICKs are mine. Nancy, d/o William & Kessiah, m. James DANIELL(O'DANIEL) of Fairfield, SC, abt 1777, moving with him to Hancock County, GA circa 1790. No children are confirmed from the union of Nancy and James, but there are suspicions of two possible children, a John DANIELL to whom she gives a slave girl in 1799 (after James' death) "for the love and good will and affection which I have for my son", and a Betty AUSTON, mother of James' grandson Jesse Daniell AUSTON, both named in James' will of 1797. As yet this "Betty" is unidentified. James' Bible does not show either John or Betty, and John is not mentioned in James' Will. William HARDWICK was the Executor of James DANIELL's estate. James' son Levi DANIELL in his Will refers to "my step-mother Nancy DANIELL." After James' death in 1798, Nancy HARDWICK DANIELL m2 James BARROW in 1802. She moved with him to Baldwin County, dying there in 1814. According to the Will abstract, William left "To daughter Nancy DANIELL, 25 cents". Really, huh. "William Garland HARDWICK and mother, Kessiah Cynthia PARKER, all of Westmorland. Her grandfather was James HARDWICK and grandmother, Henrietta GARLAND, also all of Westmorland." Garland Payne Daniel should take note. >>>> John R.
