    3. Jack, As you know a lot of Scots bailed out of Scotland and went to Ireland so not all Scots came directly to the colonies. The source for the Irish component in this family is from the Cub Creek information by Karen Cotter as well as from other families who are collateral with this bunch. Personally, I believe the Irish component is probably correct, based upon the people around them, including the COFFEES, and their name may have been DONNELL and not DONALD. Anyway, I saw something tonight which brings us back to the marriage of David DANIEL, son of James DANIEL II and Elizabeth CUNNINGHAM of Greene County, GA. It was on the History Channel and concerned the life and times of Daniel BOONE. I have known for a long time the family of Daniel BOONE was around various members of the DANIEL family. A loose connection, let's say. As you know the CUNNINGAMS were from Lancaster County, PA and Squire BOONE was from Berks County, PA, which is adjacent to Lancaster County, PA. Anyway, Daniel BOONE migrated from PA into the Yadkin Valley of NC in the 1760's after his marriage to Rebecca BRYAN. The Yadkin Valley of NC is in Caldwell County, NC and guess which family was one of the big names around the CUNNINGHAMS -- the CALDWELLS. The BRYANS and the BOONES were both Quakers which usually translates into Big Methodists in later years. However, Daniel BOONE would bounce back and forth after the French and Indian War between that area of NC and the, yet, as unsettled areas of KY. I am sure most researchers know about Daniel BOONE saving from the Indians his own daughter, as well as two CALLAWAY girls, in the 1770's after they were captured outside of the settlement he founded at Boonesborough, Madison County, KY. Going back a few years before that, in 1755 when Daniel was with Col. BRADDOCK and George WASHINGTON during their ill-fated attempt to drive the French out of what is now present day Pittsburg, PA area , BOONE met another teamster who told him about a easy passage to KY through the Cumberland Gap. This fellow teamster's name was John FINDLEY. Now, back to David DANIEL of Greene and Wilkes County, GA. Guess who he married? He married a Sarah FINDLEY on 13 Aug 1818 in Wilkes County, GA and she had a brother named, John FINDLEY. It is not like we see the name, FINDLEY, every day, is it? I smell something here because we know the CALLAWAYS, originally of Somerset County, MD, migrated to this same area of Wilkes County, GA, where we find this FINDLEY girl, as well as David DANIEL, son of a DANIEL and a CUNNINHGAM. I have forgotten which one of the CALLAWAY boys these two CALLAWAY girls, saved by Old Dan'l, descend from but they were part of the same overall CALLAWAY family as that found in Wilkes County, GA, as I remember. Anyway, it is all interesting since we know a lot of VA and PA folks were key players in the settlement of both KY and later, the Ohio Valley area, including the BOONES, CLARKES, HARRISONS and others, some of which we also see down in GA. One of my favorite historical books I like to read at night is the 1913 History of Piqua, Miami County, OH. The reason I like to read this book is not because it includes some of my wife's ancestors but because it contains so much history about the early years of this country and what these early persons faced in those tough times. Not to mention all of the players we usually associate with other areas, like William Henry HARRISON and others, who were key players in the early years of Miami County, OH but are usually best remembered with events in other areas of the country. Take for example, Col. John JOHNSTON (1775-1860) of Upper Piqua, Miami County, OH. This Irish lad, as a young man was the Secretary of the Washington, DC Masonic Lodge and guess the name of the person whom Col JOHNSTON conducted the last Masonic rites at their funeral? If you said Masonic Brother, George Washington, then you are correct. Col. John JOHNSTON was also the head of the Indian Department for the Western Division during the War of 1812 and it was through his actions the Indians did not join the British as allies during the War of 1812. thus saving the Ohio Valley from depredation during this two year war. 3. John, The Wilkes CO Callaway brothers had another brother who did not come to GA. His descendants went to TN and KY. That is the line of the Callaway girls who were friends of the Boones. 2. John R. Clarke
    3. Lucy, I said it was from the same "overall" family, I did not say these two girls were from John or Edward's lines. I think they came from the Thomas CALLAWAY line, but it has been a long time since I first looked at that information and I do not carry these girls in my PAF. Squire BOONE, Daniel's father, died in Rowan County, NC. Daniel's sister, Hannah BOONE married a PENNINGTON and a STEWART. I think the STEWART boy was killed during a trip with BOONE to KY and sister, Sarah BOONE, married a WILCOXEN. The reason I started looking in the BOONE family a half-dozen years or so ago was after I looked at the families around the Robert Watkins FLOURNOY family of Emanuel and later, Washington County, GA. This bunch left the Rowan and Granville County, NC area, went to KY and then came down to GA. The WILCOXENS left the same area, moved to KY and then came down to the Montgomery County, AL area. The COBBS and the RICE Families are tied to these families and the COBBS are tied to several key families of Morgan County, GA which I take close note of. The reason I looked at the FLOURNOY line is because of the Julia FLOURENCE that my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL, married on 25 May 1851 in Richmond County, GA. However, this Julia disappears from his life by 1845 when we find him married to Rachel Rebecca GREEN, d/o William GREEN and Rachel WARREN of Emanuel County, GA. However, I did find an Elizabeth Julia FLOURNOY born 25 May 1815 and you know how girls love to get married on their birthdays and this Julia was in the area and single at the time, a widow. I also know her brother, Robert Watkins FLOURNOY, Jr., Esq. of Sandersville, Washington County, GA would have floated in the same circles as my GGF, also an attorney-farmer, and Sandersville is well within the reach of Jefferson County, GA and I have lots of links in my bunch to this area. This Julia also had a couple of children by her first husband and this may have been the reason for the double bond on RWD's marriage to her. Double marriage bonds are not normally required for a marriage unless children from a previous marriage are involved. I do not know what happened to this Julia, either, or her children if she had any from a previous marriage. As for the WILCOXEN name, the distribution of the estate of RWD in 1867 in Jefferson County, GA names his daughter, by Rachel GREEN, as Mary Daniel WILCOXEN and I have seen the name, Lewis WILCOX listed as her husband, so I put 2 and 2 together on this one. I have never been able to connect this WILCOXEN or WILLCOX to this Mary Green DANIEL born 1848 in Emanuel County, GA, nor have I found out what happened to her. I also know there was a Lewis WILCOXEN of Montgomery, AL and I also have more than a few DANIEL related links to that area of AL. Personally, my best guess on Mary Green DANIEL was she married a WILLCOX and they were part of that WILLCOX family of Telfair County, GA who were tied to the family of John DANIEL and Rebecca STEPHENS down in that area. I also know a WILCOX family moved to Ben Hill County, GA and Lewis was a given name in that Fitzgerald, GA WILCOX family but I have never been able to connect them to Mary Green DANIEL. However, I do know this about this WILCOX family -- they had heart problems and lived pretty short lives and I think this may also have been a problem in my DANIEL bunch because neither the boys nor the girls lived much past 60, if that. The reason I have first hand knowledge about the WILCOX family of Fitzgerald, Ben Hill County, GA is because my mother dated Lewis WILCOX as a young girl but she would not marry him. My mother born 1904 was then a school teacher and school principal at the time. I met Lewis WILCOX as a young boy but he died rather young, as did most of his siblings. The WILCOX's of Ben Hill County, GA were a very nice family, farmers, doctors, etc. I am also sure they migrated to the Ben Hill area (then, Irwin County, GA) in concert with the PAULK, DORMINY, HENDERSON, HUDSON, LUKE and others families from the Emanuel, Jefferson and Burke County, GA areas. I know all of these families because my mother's ROBINSON family lived in that area from the early 1900's, on. John R.
