    3. Ruth: No, I don't know where the "Mayfield" in George Mayfield Daniel's name came from, and I sure wish I did! This particular family, sons, grandsons, etc., of my very elusive Thomas Daniel, b. 1786, GA, seemed to use a lot of spousal and grand spousal maiden surnames. I have searched all the Mayfields I could find back to Abraham and Abraham, Jr, but without knowing the maiden name of old 1786 Thomas' mother, I can't make a connection, although my gut feeling tells me there probably is. If this is the Thomas Daniel, Clarke Co., resident, who drew land in the 1807 Land Lottery as an "Orph" of a "Berry" Daniel (and I think he is), there should be a Berry/Daniel connection about two generations back, but so far, can't find that either. Two other names I am looking for are "Marion" and "Price", but those could be somewhere in the Wheeler (from GA.)or Lowery/Lowry (from VA) lines here in TX. If you any "Mayfield" clues, I sure would like to explore them. Anne
