Wanda, I tend to agree that Ireland was probably a more common location for some of these families, more so than Scotland or England. If they were of English or Scottish origins, there was a reason they left, usually because they became "persona non grata" for various number of reasons or for religious freedom. Also, a lot of English soldiers came to the colonies, married here and stayed here after their military obligation was over or their unit transferred back to England. Then, we have those who came to the colonies as an expansion of their families commercial business. This is a group I like to look closely at for some of my bunch. Like the reasons their descendants would later use as justification for fighting in the Civil War, there were many reasons these persons came to the colonies. Some, because it sounded like a good idea, some because they had to, some because they thought they could make a quick buck in the colonies and others because of religious persecution, etc. That said, there was probably little these early folks would ever agree on but by 1775 they would agree on one thing -- George III and his royal boot licking cronies had to go and go they went. <grin> John R.
