    3. Mike, There is something amiss, here. I know what that 1794 will says but it does not make sense when you mesh it with the Cunningham information. The CUNNINGHAM information says this whole bunch were VA folks and VA folks usually marry into VA folks and this CUNNINGHAM family seems to have taken that tendency to the extremes - they also married each other's widows. One, we know where old Simon BURNEY was from (Beaufort County, NC) and what the deeds back in Pitt County, NC say, don't we? We also know that Simon is generally an IOW area given name and it is found all through these IOW families which seems to confirm most of this. We also know into which families his other children married, don't we. However, we do have that nebulous RANDLE connection that seems to hang like a pall all over this family, unattached and RANDLE is a VA name and it is tied to many of the same families as are the CUNNINGHAMS. Also, if you look at the COFFEES and their known descendants they match profile wise with all of the CUNNINHAM information. William Coffee DANIEL married a SCREVEN out of Savannah and Smith Coffee DANIEL moved to MS and married well out there -- both were what one would call, landed gentry, then and later. One of the COFFEE boys was a general and Coffee County, GA was named for him. All you have to do is go back to VA and see the CUNNINHAMS were buying thousands of acres of land, all over the place. These were not "po" folks and what they did in Greene County, GA, later, was just an extension of what they did in VA, previously. Do you think they would let one of their daughters marry the son of an itinerate Baptist preacher from NC, even if he was a Lanier-Daniel? Not on your best day. Any opposition to such a marriage may have been the other way around, too, look what Rev. Jesse MERCER did to Gov. CLARKE when he married Jesse's daughter without his permission. This just does not measure up because their is one thing we know in genealogy -- "likes marry likes"... ..... I do not know what the answer is but something smells here and whether that smell is from the CUNNINHAM or DANIEL information, I do not know. Not to mention the fact that Charles is not a given name anywhere that I can find in the LANIER-DANIEL or BURNEY families. My guess is -- Thomas DANIEL of Greene County, GA was either a descendant of James DANIEL and Jean KELSO, which does not explain the BURNEY connection, or there is something connecting these two DANIEL families that we do not know about. I also think there may be some credence to the Sarah (I think) RANDLE connection listed by many for this Thomas DANIEL. Putting Thomas DANIEL with the BURNEYS together and then throwing them into the CUNNINGHAM-COFFEE milieu is like putting apples and oranges in the same basket and calling them, pears. It does not fly, either...... We have three possibilities, as I see it -- the CUNNINGHAM information is wrong, the BURNEY-DANIEL information is wrong or they are both wrong to some degree, so take your pick...... John R.
