    1. [DANIEL-L] Rhoda DANIEL-HUDSON
    2. John, I believe I sent this to the list, but - just in case - here's the deed identifying Nathaniel HUDSON as spouse of Rhoda DANIEL and Hamilton HUDSON as their son: On 01 Dec 1797 William Daniel of Pitt County, NC "in consideration of the love good will and affection which I have and bear toward my loving Nephew Hamilton Hudson of the State of Georgia in the county of Screven unto Nathaniel Hudson and Roda his wife my sister...for the sum of fifty pounds..one Negro boy the age of twelve years of a yellow colour named Daniel." The deed was proved on the oath of Enoch Daniel Feb 01 1798--Deed Book A, p 112. If this Rhoda DANIEL is not the daughter of Robert Lanier DANIEL and widow of Robert HUDSON, Jr and sister of William DANIEL in Pitt Co NC what other Rhoda DANIEL with a brother William in Pitt Co and md to a HUDSON in Screven Co GA could she be? Note also that Enoch DANIEL proved the deed. Joni.

    3. Hi All: I'd be glad to go back to the library & copy the pages that relate to the Hudson's. I'm printing off the e-mails today that related to the Hudson's to be able to study a little. If I understand Joni - she's saying that Nathaniel Hudson is not part of the Elbert Co, GA group? I believe just opposite - that they were from the same families - at least at this point (it's still early in the game). In the book "Early Settlers of Alabama" - there were only a hand full of Daniel's listed in the index. One of them was a William DANIEL listed on page 420. A Grand Jury was called in Wilkes Co, GA on 25 Aug 1779 in the matter of Joshua Rials who was convicted of high treason along with eight others. Amongst the witnesses against Rials was Samuel Lamar. The Grand Jury consisted of the following men: Esquires. Stephen Heard, Foreman George Walton (signer of Dec of Independ.) David Burnett Thomas Carter Richard Aycock Robert Day John Gotham Dionysius Oliver Gentlemen. Holman Freeman Thomas Strand Micajah Williamson (his dau. married Gen. John Clark (Gov) & son of Gen Elijah Clark) James McLean Jacob Farrington William Bailey John Gloss Then the following petit jurors were sworn: Holman Freeman(Col.Freeman's son Fleming Martha sister of Governors Bibb of AL) William Butler John Burness William Bonier Henry Duke James White Matthew Moore William DANIEL Joseph Collins Jacob McClendon, Jr Mordecai Moore Robert Hanna John Scott Riden - Ruth in Portland, OR ----- Original Message ----- From: <JOANH954@aol.com> To: <DANIEL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 08, 2003 9:09 PM Subject: [DANIEL-L] Rhoda DANIEL-HUDSON > John, > I believe I sent this to the list, but - just in case - here's the deed > identifying Nathaniel HUDSON as spouse of Rhoda DANIEL and Hamilton HUDSON as their > son: > > On 01 Dec 1797 William Daniel of Pitt County, NC "in consideration of the > love good will and affection which I have and bear toward my loving Nephew > Hamilton Hudson of the State of Georgia in the county of Screven unto Nathaniel > Hudson and Roda his wife my sister...for the sum of fifty pounds..one Negro boy > the age of twelve years of a yellow colour named Daniel." 3. Ruth, You keep getting closer and closer to many of my bunch, don't you. I guess this is why we have been friends an collaborators for so long, right? <grin> There was a William DANIEL who died in 1839 in Morgan County, GA. I have his will, somewhere but it is very hard to read. However, from what I could read he had no heirs or at least none were listed in this will. I believe the Capt. James L. DANIEL who died about 1850 was his brother because a James DANIEL was listed as his brother in this will. The will said his father was a John DANIEL and from the looks of this will, these boys were well edgeumacated, as many current GA high school graduates pronounce it. <grin> We also know the CUNNINGHAMS were in Madison, Morgan County, GA in this post 1807 time frame and I am now starting to think this DANIEL bunch of Morgan may have been an extension of the Cunningham-Daniel bunch out of Greene. I am also not against the idea the Samuel C. DANIEL we see in Morgan in this same time frame is not one of these, too, since Samuel CUNNINGHAM was the ancestor of these Cub Creek CUNNINGHAMS of Greene County, GA and this Samuel C. DANIEL sure meets the financial profile of this CUNNINGHAM bunch. John R. 3. Joni, This is what they call conflicting information. We have what is purported to be the will of Rhoda DANIEL in 1792 and then the later transfer of a slave to what seems to be her in 1797. I know you say it was a gift to her children by her first husband, Robert HUDSON, but my source says it was a will and not a gift and I believe that source. Also there is no Nathaniel DANIEL listed on that 1792 will or gift, as you call it, and when in the world do you see a wife transfer anything to anybody without the name of her spouse, if he is alive, not listed on it. Not that I know of. Remember, this was the days when a wife's property became the property of her husband and anything she did would require the consent of her hubby... I think that Rhoda died in 1792, as the will states. You also do not probate transfer documents and this will was probated in Effingham County, GA according to my source. I also think we are missing something here and I do not know what it is but I have not seen anything here that makes me think that Rhoda DANIEL married anyone other than Robert HUDSON and her children were as listed in the 1792 document. I think we need to originals of both documents to straighten out this mess and transcriptions will not suffice, especially when dealing with conflicting information. John R. 3. Joni, These are transcriptions of the two slave transfer documents I have in this matter, both from Pitt County, NC. I do not know how accurate they are nor have I seen the originals. Notice the first, 1782 slave transfer document. It was not recorded to 1798. That is interesting and it may have only been recorded because of the probate of her will. Notice the second slave transfer document, it was recorded in 1789, several years before the 1791 date of Rhoda's will but like the first slave transfer document from RLD, it may not have been recorded until later and incorrectly listed her husband's name as Nathaniel and not Robert, as listed in her will. I do not know on either of these accounts. >>> Deed Book A pg 29 (148) 14 September 1782, Pitt Co, NC, recorded 17 November 1798 RLD to Samuel Hudson, g/son (son of his dau Roda, wife of Robert Hudson of GA) one mulatto girl, age 5, named Charita. Wit: George Daniel, John Wilkins, William Wilson, Jr Deed Book A pg 15 (113) Pitt Co, NC, recorded 01 February 1789 William (Willie) Daniel to Hamilton Hudson, nephew (son of sister Rhoda) a Negro boy, age 12, of a yellow color, named Dennis Wit: Enoch Daniel, James George >>> John R.
