Listed , the Delilah Daniel I refer to is old Delilah Daniel, the matriarch of nearly all the Daniels who lived in Fayette/Bond/Shelby Counties, Illinois by 1820...born ca 1750; in later years there was another family of Daniel (they are easy to separate) that moved to Fayette from up north. We find Delilah first in Burke Co., NC 1790 census with children. I have not found her in NC 1800 census; however I have been told that she shows on the NC 1810 census...I think they say the county was Mecklenburg or Rutherford...I have not seen it. Some say she was married to Jerimiah Daniel who appears on the SC census..? I forgot which year... and which county. As far as I can tell she never shows on records with a husband as head-of-household.(Perhaps she was Cherokee..the Cherokee wives then were considered the head of a family). Never-the-less, she is the mother, grandmother, etc. to the Daniel clan in Illinois in counties I stated at the first. Your Delilah(they say) was the daughter of Delilah Daniel's son, William (which I question). She married first to Hopkins, had children, widowed, then she married Martin Daniel,SR who was born in North Carolina about 1791..age 59 on the 1850 Fayette census...look at the original on microfilm.. This elder Martin Daniel is my line through his son, Martin Daniel, Jr. who md first to Sarah Harris..(my line)...then he married his cousin, Mary Ann Smith, age 15, in 1855 (dau of Christina & George Smith). My line moved south into Arkansas in the 1870's, then ended up in Dallas, Texas in the 1880's-1890's. Just recently I have found another William Daniel we will need to fit into this much intermarried family? At present it will appear (I think there is a mistake made as to who the children, grandchildren, etc. of the original Delilah Daniel were) that your Martin Daniel,Sr who married Delilah Daniel Hopkins, was his brother William's daughter. It did not help any that they named all the kids the same names. Please e-mail me privately if you wish...this is a long standing problem with researchers of this clan of Daniels who came to that part of Illinois before 1820. Some have given up it appears. Please let me know what you find new. We think our ear-holes come from the Daniel family. The earliest Daniel we have is Delilah Daniel. We do not have a maiden name from her..or a husband. He may have been Jeremiah Daniel She was born about 1750. Delilah lived in Burke Co.,NC 1790's; moved south to Pendleton Dist, SC 1800; was in what is now Fayette Co., Illinois by 1819. The Daniel DNA has a match for Delilah's son and the Daniel family in Henry Co., Virginia. So, they probably were in Virginia before moving to NC.
