Who was Stephen Jr's grand father -- that is the 64,000 dollar question. We know he had an uncle, David, and that Stephen married Rhoda IRWIN at David's home which, as I remember, was in FL or Southern AL. We know that Stephen's father was also named Stephen and he was married to a Frecea BARNES. We also know that Stephen, Jr. was born ABT 1792 and he married both Rhoda and Nancy IRWIN. d/o Gen. James Lawson IRWIN and Rebecca SESSIONS of Washington County, GA and formerly of Mecklenburg County, NC. We also know quite a bit about the IRWINS, they were originally from Ireland and James's brother was Gen. Jared IRWIN (1750-1818) for whom Irwin County, GA is named. We also know the IRWIN and ERWIN names seem to be the same. I also know the BARNES family of Edgecombe County, NC is all over the DANIEL family of that area. I also know there was a Robert ERWIN in Greene County, NC and he could well be related to your IRWINS. I also know that my GGA, Nancy DANIEL (1799-1862) married a Richard ERWIN (ABt 1795-BEF 1827) as her first husband. After his death, she married Frederick Wadsworth WISE, son of John WISE and Nancy WADSWORTH of Greene County, NC, later Richmond County, GA. Her younger sister, Sarah Elizabeth DANIEL (1804-1872) married Frederick's brother, Thomas C. WISE (1799-1849). However, Nancy and Richard ERWIN had one child that survived, Elizabeth Ann ERWIN (1825-1885) and she married James Robert TINLEY, Sr. (1721-1845) of Burke County, GA and after his death she married, Robert R. VALLOTTON of Burke County, GA, later they were of.Grovetown, Columbia County, GA. Nancy DANIEL also had a brother, Chesley C. DANIEL born ABT 1815 who lived in Washington County, GA. He was married to an Anne (b. ABT 1817) and they had children named Robert B. DANIEL, Sarah Adeline DANIEL, Isabella Virginia DANIEL, Mary A. DANIEL, Ella C. DANIEL and Emma C. DANIEL born in the 1838-1856 time frame. According to my information this Chesley moved from Burke to Washington County, GA AFT 1850 where some say he ran a hotel but that is unconfirmed.
