Was Thomas DANIEL, son of Robert Lanier DANIEL, the son-in-law of John CASON and father of John's grandson Robert DANIEL? I think a good argument can be made for it. There is no question that Thomas married a Delilah LNU and left her as a widow in 1818. Thomas DANIEL was listed as deceased in Oct 1818 in a deed granting his widow Delila 600 acres dower. It is not clear to me who Delila's father is but she jointly transfers some property in 1818 with Harmon Mayo and Luke WARD (who married Lavinia MAYO). It appears this property may have been from the estate of John MAYO. There was also a distribution of Thomas's lands in 1821 as follows: CC65 11-9-1821 Thomas DANIEL, Dec. to Media DANIEL, heir, John DANIEL, heir, Rufus W. DANIEL, heir, Thomas DANIEL, heir, Susan DANIEL, heir, James DANIEL, heir, Sabria DANIEL, heir Division of land: 277 1/2 A to Media; 284 A to John, 284 A including house and plantation to Rufus W.; 123 A to Thomas; 277 A to Susan, daughter of Robert DANIEL, dec.; 190 A to James; 150 A to Sabria. Former owner Robert Lanier DANIEL (Pat. 1782). It is clear that Thomas had a son Robert and it is clear to me that Robert was born long before Thomas married Delila. On 1790 Census Thomas DANIEL one male (self) over 16, 1 under 16 and 2 slaves, no females in household living adjacent to Lanier and Robert (probably RLD their Pap; he listed 15 slaves) and Calston (Colson) ADAMS (maried John Cason's daughter Rachel) and five houses from John CASON. On 1800 Census Thomas lists 1 male 10-16, 1 male 16-26 and self, again no females in household, and 4 slaves. On 1810 census a Robert Daniel 16-26 appears with one female 16-26 and 4 slaves. Two houses down is Thomas with 3 males under 10, one male 45+, one female 45+ and five slaves. 1810 also shows another Thomas with 3 males under 10, 1 male 26-44, 1 female 26-45 and 4 slaves. This second Thomas lives 8 houses down from Lanier also listed as 26-44. I can't explain the two Thomas's but either now have a female in the household and several little persons. On the 1820 census "Della" DANIEL female 26-45 listed 2 males 0-10, 2 10-16, 1 16-18, 1 16-26, 1 female 0-10, 1 female 26-45 and seven slaves living next to "Willa" DANIEL (believe its Willie, Thomas's brother) and John & Leven James. Leven sold his property in 1827 and deed listed the property as adjacent to "Thomas DANIEL heirs & Willey DANIEL". I think this has to be Delila. Both Thomas & Robert are gone in 1820. Thomas also deeded 175 acres to Robert on 2-9-1810 and although it wasn't described as a deed of gift no apparent money was exchanged. This deed was witnessed by Adam ALBRITON, a son-in-law of John CASON, and a Luke ALBRITON. I wonder if this Robert may have been the Robert of the slave stealing incident. If so, his "Live fast, die young and have a good looking corpse" philosophy appears to have worked. Mike Daniel
